Tahoe Tournament - Great showing by WCLL players

Postby East-West Lax on Tue Aug 02, 2005 11:31 am

This past weekend in Tahoe, the Dub C squad consisting primarily of former WCLL standouts showed everyone again how far west coast lacrosse has come. They routed a Marin squad full of Princeton and Syracuse grads by 8 goals in the semi-finals, led by Will Patton (UCSB), Will Burson (Sonoma), Luke Wilson (UCSB) and a host of others. In the finals, Dub C faced the Olympic Club, another team full of East Coast talent. Although trailing by 4 with about 15 min. to go, Dub C fought back to tie the game in the closing seconds of regulation. In the OT, Dub C had their chances but eventually O-Club tallied the winner. Nonetheless, as a former east coast player and current/future west coast resident who has been involved in west coast lax since I moved out here I continue to be both impressed and proud of the players out here. As someone who has played with and against some of the best players in the country - the talent, heart and love for the game that the Dub C squad showed this weekend leaves me with no doubt that we will soon be watching plenty of our former high school players on TV for many Memorial Day weekends to come.

Well done fellas.

Actually, Will Patton played for the O Club, but Dub C also boasted some current WCLL players such as Tim Casey, Damon-Conklin-Moragne, Pete Langkammerer, John Messina, & Warren Pringle amongst others. The championship game between Dub C & the O Club was a very entertaining game, with Tim Casey logging the game tying goal with less than 10 seconds left in regulation.

The highlight was Dub C's victory over the Marin club team. This was a team made up of primarily ex-varsity players. The spectators were definitely enjoying the domination of that team.. . . .for obvious reasons.

Again, well done, guys.

No website unfortunately. You'll have to be satisfied with our recounting of the weekend.

In fact, Will P played for both Dub C and O-Club in the semis and then with the O-Club in the final. (Must have been a tough call for him).

Catlaxman, do you know who the goaltender was for Dub C? I was very impressed with some of his saves.

Dub C goalies were Warren Pringle, and Derek Kravitz(spelling?).

This is a website with some info about the tourney.

I happened to be staying up in Incline the weekend of the tourney (not realizing that it was the same weekend) and was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon it and got to watch some games. I echo the other sentiments on this thread. There was a lot of talent there, much of it comprised of WCLL guys. I look forward to participating next year. It was brutal having about 10 of my former teammates from various teams, and other players I know telling me to strap up and play but not having my gear!

Also, how did the Rocky Mountain Oysters do?! From what I saw they looked LEGIT, especially their defense. One guy from 'Cuse and another wearing an MLL Philadelphia Barrage helment<--?! Their defense was so good that Mike Towers was actually spending some time on the bench... Were they in a different bracket than Dub C and O Club or did they lose?

They made the semi-finals by winning their bracket, but were dominated by the O Club in the semis. I don't know who the guy in the Barrage helmet was, but that was one huge individual!

I actually saw him after their game and recognized him from our scrimmage vs. the Hollywood Starz team. During that scrimmage I believe he was wearing a Whittier helmet, so he may have played there, or he just has a nice helmet collection. Either way, he was huge and was disecting (I mean hacking the crap out of) his attackmen.

I was playing for the O Club and they sent me in late in the game and I jogged onto the field only to match up with that huge behemoth. I can say from experience that he was indeed hacking the crap out of his attackman.

Name is Sean something-or-other. Graduated from Butler in 1998 and made the North-South game. He plays for Nike in the men's division here in Denver and is a pretty cool guy. I played with him up in Breckenridge last weekend.
