Santa Barbara-ians

Postby bste_lax on Tue Jul 19, 2005 4:12 pm

Went to Santa Barbara this weekend, nice little town.

Was a big fan of the food at Holdren's Steaks and Seafood although the campus to UCSB was weird being all isolated. Don't know if I would like having the campus so far away from downtown.

I guess Jesse James (Monster Garage) and Sandra Bullock got married there this weekend.

Otherwise, I really liked the place.

Who cares how far it is from downtown -- Did you see the beach!?!?!??!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!? 8-) Not many schools can rival that setting at Chula Vista

Don't get me wrong, that is a huge selling point. I just like when a college has their downtown in the heart of the campus.

I believe it's Isla Vista, not Chula Vista. Being so far from downtown never fazed me, there were always plenty of places to drink in IV. But that was a few years ago...

Yes, sorry... I meant Isla Vista... Chula Vista is next to San Diego. Think Matt mixed up his last too -- tough to have a city's downtown in the heart of the campus rather than the other way around LOL

You know what I meant.

That's one of the reasons why I love Iowa City, such a great downtown Ped Mall which is right across from the Pentacrest (5 buildings including the Old Captiol Building). So you have the downtown are buzzing while the school is buzzing. Nice little town feel.

Now if we can just get a beach on the ocean nearby and not some cheesy man-made beach at the lake/da mn are which is 20 minutes away.......

Come see UW, Matt... in the middle of a world-class metropolitan city with a big, beautiful lake out the back door 8-)

You've gotta see Isla Vista during the school year. World class party school. Nobody does it like Isla Vista.

Ah yes, surf, sand and the possibility of an off-shore oil leak from one of the various platforms in the bay.

My cousins both got married at the Fess Parker (yes, of Davy Crocket fame, er) Hotel right on the beach. Very nice place. Oh and at the World market on the main drag you can find Toohey's New. Not a sermon, just a thought.
Dagger!

I like the set up at UCSB. UCSB is located in Goleta, CA a few miles west of Santa Barbara, on the Pacific Ocean. Isla Vista is part of Goleta. The party scene in IV is great for college age students. IV is a student ghetto. Anything goes on Del Playa Dr. on Friday and Saturday night.
Downtown Santa Barbara is a resort destination. State St. is rocking with tourists over 21 from LA and around the world.
The movie "Sideways" was filmed in the wine country, around Solvang, which is northwest of UCSB in the mountains, near Michael Jackson's ranch.
Isla Vista has it's own little downtown just like Telegraph Ave in Berkeley. UCSB students have the best of all worlds: IV, college parties, Downtown SB- State St., great bars and restaurants, Solvang, ocean beaches, mountains, wine country etc. It is one of the best places I have ever visited.
