Please excuse my error - the WCCL championship game was in Orinda, not Moraga.
Also, what I said about Ladt was not meant to be a slight on Robinson, if any one perceived it that way. Robinson was an outstanding goalie - you're not named all-American and two-time WCLL defensive player of the year without being very talented. It's just that replacing 63 points, whick Ladt tallied during last season, will be a challenge.

Yes, he was LCC's top offensive midfielder. His choice of Chapman surprised me. I was hearing he was being recruited by a few D-I teams like Notre Dame and UNC. Very hard outside shot, strong on both hands, and has some nice dodges. He'll very likely start or at least get some Man-up time.
Rumor was that he was trying to get into UCSB through the appeal process. Not sure how that turned out, but this may indicate that it was not successful. UCSB could've used him with the loss of their seniors in the midfield.

I heard/read a rumor he was appealing at Both UCSB and CAL and would go to whichever he was successful. I don't know about Santa Barbara but CAL's Appeals process is informal and multi tiered, if he really wants to go there and persists he will probably be successful, though that might come a few days before the Fall semester begins.

Stryker,
We've been down this road (appeals process) before. Appeals do not have a high rate of success. Please don't try to paint a different picture.

I really have no solid knowledge about university appeals processes other than what I saw several (5-6) of my friends go through 4 years ago. All of my friends who appealed to UCSB and UCLA were granted admission. I'm pretty sure they were fairly qualified and could have gotten in the first time around, but all they did was write appeal letters and send in letters of recommendation and they were accepted. This is not a blanket statement that appealing is an easy process with a high rate of success for everyone, this is simply what I observed.
I also talked with Scott DeMonte last summer and he told me that he wrote letters of rec for several of his former SB players who were successfully granted admission based on appeal, though he did say that not every player who he recommended in the appeal process was accepted.

Things have changed a lot in the last 4 years. The appeals process at the popular UC schools (UCLA, Santa Barbara, Cal & San Diego) has a very low rate of success now compared to 4 years ago. The number of qualified applicants continues to increase and also the number of students staying in California has increased. This has put tremendous pressure on the admissions process.

Definitely agree based on what my brother just went through with college admissions this year. I was just stating what I saw a few years ago. I feel bad for these kids now; I thought it was tough getting into good colleges 4 or 5 years ago, but now it's at a whole new level of competition and difficulty...

USD and USC Recruits
It appears that USD and USC each landed a stellar player from Colorado. Ben Tilton, an excellent midfielder and captain of Cherry Creek's state championship team, signed with the Toreros, and Luke Gilliard, a big, fast defenseman from Golden H.S., will put on the Trojans uniform next fall. Check out what "woplax" says about each in the "Vail U-19 High School Tourney" topic in the Boys Lacrosse forum on laxpower.com.

This is news to our program, but we're definitely excited to have this kid next year. Here's what an onlooker who appears to have some knowledge of Team Colorado (probably a parent of one of the players) said about Luke Gilliland:
"Luke Gilliard: (USC) This kid really slipped though the cracks [in the context regarding being recruited by DI schools). 6'5" 220 and runs a 4.9."
I just heard from hisHS coach who said this about him:
"You are definitely getting a great player in Luke. He is huge! 6-6 and goes roughly 240. He is agressive and has great stick skills. He was a senior captain for me this year and was 1st team All-Conference and 1st team All-State. He had a walk on offer from Johns Hopkins but decided to go to USC instead."
About the new USD middie:
"Ben Tilton: (San Diego) The best middie dodger in the tournament!"

Is Tilton going to USD or SDSU? Laxpower has him listed with SDSU.

That is the Demand Side now here is the Supply Side....At least for Berkeley. Cal offered admission to 9,617 Freshman for the Fall of 2005; a 9.2% increase over the 8808 admitted for the Fall of 2004. The Admissions process has undergone much more change at UCLA, UCSD and UCSB than at UC Berkeley since 4 years ago because they essentially adopted in varying forms the subjective admissions system Cal had already been using. The reaon for Berkeley's increase in offers of admission was monetary. There has been a glut of vacant apartments in Berkeley since the Dot Com crash and Cal has been adding dorm rooms like there is no tomorrow and to boot charging more than Harvard for even their least desirable triple units. In addition the City has been in a state of deficit and seeking increased property tax revenues; they have been granting developers like Patrick Kennedy the right to build oversized apartment structures full of rabbit hutch sized apartments only suited for students, and get this....if they agree to not build the parking required by code they are allowing them to build even larger buildings. They call this the density bonus. The idea according to the Geniuses at groups like Urban Ecology is that if you build without parking then people will take mass transit or ride their bike. Well, not exactly. It just means there is no parking and downtown retailers go out of business. For Cal it was either admit more or have LOTS of empty rooms with the Southside Units opening up this Fall.

The figure you need look at is how many applicants there were for those 9,617 admissions. From that, you will see how difficult it is for students to be admitted to the UC of their choice.
