Will, we could start up the "Washed Up USL MDIA All-Stars".

We're doing that in the Summer Slam tournament up in Victoria, BC in July. If anyone can make the trip, just let me know.

How is this roster put together? Try-outs, invitations, applications...Just curious.

I heard about it from my coach while playing, and he gave me an application to fill out. If I remember correctly it would have been sent to Steve Dini, with a letter of recommendation from my coach. Things could have changed.

No Try-outs, too difficult to coordinate players from around the country to meet in one place with differnent school schedules and such.

When I played for the team last year, I was invited to apply, and submitted a formal application, a lacrosse resume, coach contacts, and a one-page letter on why I wanted to play and why I should make the team (this was optional). As far as I know from there, the coaches and Steve Dini went through the apps and selected the team and alternates based on the application pool.

I heard that this year was more competitive, and many of the players were hand selected by the coaching staff, but I'm sure the process was very much the same. If you look at the coaching staffs of years past, as well as this year, you can see that many players are obviously taken from the respective coaches' teams (for example, with Flip coaching last year, we had 8 CSU players)...

USA West coaches:

Mike Cummings (SCAD) and I would love to hear about the tournament after you guys get back; we will be approaching the SELC about forming a US South, after our experience playing here in Beijing (where you guys played last year). We didn't have anybody but Beijing Sports University to play against, but the trip was still fun. (For my paid gig, I'm a anthropology professor at Davidson, China specialist).

Are CSU players not permitted on the USA West team this year?

No, they just all went last year. Why wouldn't they be "allowed"? Perhaps the "me-first ball hogs" just didn't have the $3000 to spend two years in a row.
