Just visited the MLL site and found the order of who has been picked, and without further ado, Kyle Harrison was the number one pick for New Jersey Pride. At that website, you can read the five rounds of who has been picked by which teams.

I take it that a team that drafts a military academy grad owns their rights until their term of service is up...anyone know exactly how this works? I remember David Robinson (partly because he was too tall for sub duty)got out early but I don't see the services making an exception for a low profile sport.

That is true, but many guys don't make the team or leave too quickly to make any contributions. Mickey Jarboe was drafted-can't remebered if he played. Adam Borcz drafted and played a couple of games before going to flight school. And Tim Pearson went to the Lizards but did not make the team and was deployed. If Wagner makes the team, you might see if for one or two games, but will probably be deployed soon after, and thus the end of his career (not a lot of time to keep up with the stick skills in the middle east, where everyone seems to be getting deployed). But there is always the chance that he can get his first assignment stateside, but I would't bet on it.

as for Robinson-Army had a kid-Kevin Houston that led the nation in FT % and 3 pointers ans graduated the same year as Robinson. The US Army found that he could carry a weapon just fine and saw him fit to serve his commitment. IF Robinson couldn't have dunked, I think the US Navy would have found him fit for something-like Surface Warfare. Funny how height and talent plus the ability to dunk a basketball can exempt you from things.

If I remember right, I was in 8th grade, the naval academy said that he grew too much, and couldn't function on a ship... So David Robinson was able to go to the NBA. It didn't have to do with the sport he played or his ability to dunk, just his massive growth at the academy.

Robinson grew on the order of 12 inches while at Annapolis and if you've ever been on a ship you know that being upwards of 6'2", let alone 7', makes walking through hatches a risky endeavour...but I digress. If it's true that most of the military MLL draftees don't hang around too long, then it seems silly to me to use draft picks on them.

Folks-if Robinson didn't play basketball, even with his growth, I'm sure the US Navy would find a way to get something out of their investment. There are plenty of desk jobs that could suit a seven footer. If you look at the fine print on your contract after your soph year at the academies you'll see a dislcaimer that if you are not able to fullfill your miliatary obligation then you are forced to pay back the estimated cost of your academy education. When Heisman finalist Mike Mayweather, Army '90, tried to do the NFL thing after only three years of service after graduation, and he had to pay back Uncle Sam in the order of $250,000. Who knows what it is now with inflation! The point being-Robinson was better served as a walking billboard in the NBA, then anything else that he could of done for the USN. I mean, what a recruiting tool. He's a neat guy-plays piano, etc. But don't believe the Navy spin about height. It may be true, but its only half the story. (BTW the USNA was the first academy to give a athlete a medical redshirt- Napolean Kaufman)
