I for one do not agree with the above question. First of all, CSTV has a 10-year contract with the NCAA to not only do televised events but to also provide internet-based content devied from their coverage of the NCAA events available on their website,
www.cstv.com. ESPN and FSN were late to the party on this one, believe it or not. ESPNU came on-air a full year after CSTV and while they may have the market share and the name recognition, they do not have the exclusive deal that CSTV does.
As for the coverage of the MDIA tournament in Blaine, I have to admit that I have not seen it yet. I can say that what an anthology show, which is what their coverage limited to an hour-long (actually less due to commercials), tries to do is a give a flavor of the event. Be thankful that they were there to cover the event in the first place.
While CSTV is not in every market, they are making a slow and steady growth. ESPN is a name and I am sure it would make everyone so happy to have them come and cover your events, but think of how they have grown in the past ten years. There will some time before you see the boys from Bristol showing up to cover club games. The almighty dollar dictates what is covered and I do not think that Proctor and Gamble (for one) are beating down the doors of the networks to place their adds on college club lacrosse games.
Reality is what we have to deal in but continue to dream. Get this, there is an entire cable network devoted to golf. 24-hours of golf and people actually make a living, as crazy as it sounds, covering golf tournaments. So there is hope out there. In the mean time, let's be thankful that there was national coverage, however spotty that may be, at all. I would like to thank CSTV for helping to promote the college lacrosse game in the first place.
