i know talking to the guys on the team at CSU, the school is restricting them to only use the field on campus a couple time a week for only a couple hours. the was a huge change. when i played we got the field pretty much whenever. i know that CSU is practicing at a nice indoor facility the rest of the week. it seems that practice times are plaguing a lot of teams.

For teams that have access to turf fields, what do you do when the field is covered with snow? How long and how many guys does it take to shovel a field off? Strangely, there are schools that invested in turf but have yet to purchase the small cart with a plow.

Practice Makes Perfect

Postby Dan Wishengrad on Tue Feb 08, 2005 6:54 pm

We have gotten to five days a week by working with our club sports and athletic department people and by being creative and flexible about practice time. There are four field turf fields at UW and we have practiced and/or played on them all. We currently use our home field (IMA #3) three nights a week, and the fooball team's East practice field Tuesday and Thursday nights. The lights aren't quite good enough for night games there, otherwise it's a great field seemingly coming out of the jaws of Husky Stadium next door. We will be going back to 6:30am practices twice a week in the spring, as that is all that is available for our fourth and fifth days.

Our regular home and game field is terrific and we are lucky to get to play on it's FieldTurf up here in the rainy Northwest. The football team's Dempsey Indoor Center's field is such a sweet set-up and we're lucky to get in there for some Fall practices and our big March Invitational tournament. Including Dempsey in the mix I'd say Washington 's lacrosse facilities rank among the best in the MDIA.

When we do get into the stadium on the smurf turf (up to two days a week now) and there has been some snow, the maintenance people usually have it all plowed off with some crazy sweeping machines due to the football team having some reciever practices and such. I wouldn't even want to think about clearing it ourselves.

We got a sweet schedule. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, from 4pm to 6pm and Saturday whenever.

With the whole whether thing, rain isn't an excuse! This is lacrosse, if you have a turf field don't whine, and a muddy field is SO MUCH FUN to play in!

We haven't had to deal with much snow, sleet or anything here in Central Virginia.

Up in Duluth we get:
7-9 pm Sunday
10-Midnight Tuesday

and that's all we have had for 3 years, until this week we got Thursday morning from 6-8 am.

We get the field house, which is a little bigger than a hockey rink.
