New Team for the Rocky Mountain

Postby John Westfall on Sat May 28, 2005 10:21 am

We are having a planning and development meeting on Wednesday night June 15th in Albuquerque. Anyone from the New Mexico region who would like to attend please drop me an Email at johnwestfall5@juno.com .

We plan on going out to eat and getting some of that good Mexican food Albuquerque is known for. I'm just looking forward to that Green Chilli. I have been in the South too long eating fried food. I am a little disappointed, I don't think they will have sweet tea in New Mexico.

We have a lot to discuss concerning the development of a College Team for the University of New Mexico that can compete in the Division A of the Rocky Mountain and how we will go about to finance this project. When I look at the competition in the Rocky Mountain and the obstacles that are in front of us I'm a bit overwhelmed. We have a great group of Staff members who have played in the program and have Coached with me in the past so I believe we can get this done. It is going to be a tough road with a lot of work. I just hope that my health can improve so I can make some meaningful contributions to the program.

Update:

We are moving forward with organizing the New Mexico program. But I have some serious health issues to tackle before I can really make the impact I want at UNM. Jeff Eichman will take the reins for now. If I can get through these health issues in the next few months and be able to get my Family moved back home then I can put in the time to really take
the University of New Mexico program to the next level and be a Team that will compete with the best Teams in the USL MDIA with the likes of BYU, Colorado, Colorado State and Utah. This will all take time but we have some real positive people that want this to happen and I'm real excited about going home and Coaching back in the Rocky Mountain Conference where so many of my friends in this game reside.

We are also planning to put a youth League together for the central New Mexico region and I look forward in getting involved with that. My Son Jackson went to the BYU Cub Camp last year in Utah and has really developed a great stick. Liberty All American Cory Noseworthy helped put together a great pocket on his stick and he is really taking off with his skills and I sure would like to see him develope. There is a lot of work to do but for the moment I face Brain Surgery. I'm hopeful to get through that and get involved with buiding a great program at the University of New Mexico and helping to develop a great youth program for our area in central New Mexico. I can't wait to go home.

All the best,
