Buffalo, N.Y. (February 8, 2005) — The Buffalo Bandits announced today that John Tavares has been named the National Lacrosse League’s Player of the Month for January. Through the first month of the 2005 season, Tavares led the NLL in points (34), ranked second in goals (17) and was tied for second in assists (17) with teammate Dan Teat. He currently leads the Bandits in loose balls collected (44).
"Every season, John continues to amaze me," stated Bandits General Manager Kurt Silcott. "In my opinion, he is the greatest player to ever play the indoor game. His continued success is due to his tireless work ethic and his unique ability to make the players around him better. There is rarely a month when he is not in the running for this award. He is one of the most consistent players in any sport and as this league gains more and more recognition, John should be looked at as one of the greatest athletes, anywhere. In my opinion, he is that good."
