Playoff Predictions?

For those of you not involved in the playoffs this weekend, how about some predictions for the weekend?

I would advise those people still involved in the playoffs to avoid giving your opponents extra motivation. . .but for those teams eliminated---who have seen several of the playoff teams this season. . .do you have any predictions?

UW vs. SFU
Oregon vs. Gonzaga
PLU vs. Linfield
Montana vs. Whitman

I will not speculate on the A division playoffs, as my team is still in the hut for the crown, but I will give my predictions for the B playoffs. I think it will be Montana and PLU in the final with Montana winning by four.

Well... Since I'm not in the playoffs, and now officially not on any roster (Non- Graduating Senior)

I'll make some predictions about the playoffs for the A division... I see UW over SFU by one in a close game, perhaps OT. (Sorry for the kiss of death Dan). I also see UofO over Gonzaga by about half a dozen in a not so close one. Then I see UofO over UW in the finals by three (perhaps four), and going on to good old Minnesota. Good luck guys, look good for the PNCLL.

I think it will be Montana and PLU in the final with Montana winning by four.

That one sounds like one hell of a matchup. A few recent games:
PLU v. CWU, 17-10
Montana v. CWU, 16-9

PLU v. UPS, 9-5
Montana v. UPS, 9-6

At this point in the season we're seeing a different Lute sqaud from what we saw when they lost to Montana earlier in the season. I have to confess, I was quite a bit worried at times, sometimes even a little negative.

Regardless, should this matchup happen, it's going to be a lot closer than 4. Call it bias, but look for the Lutes to pull out an OT win over a quality Montana team.

Thanks Kevin, I know that our whole team appreciates your confidence. however right now I'm struck by the quote from a NYG coach when he was asked about his playoff hopes. "Playyoffs?! Playoffs? I'm just trying to win a game and you're talking about playoffs??"

I think it's too bad that the PLU game is scheduled a half hour after the start of the Whitman - Montana rematch. I think this will be a sweet rematch for Whitman, win or lose, and a game I'd love to watch.

As for the A games, Oregon plays UW in the finals and wins by 6+. I thought that "great lacrosse played by all around" was too general of a prediction.

I agree... Oregon vs. UW in finals with Oregon running away with an easy victory. I'm sorry to say for the rest of the league that I think Oregon just has way too much dept for the rest of us. First lines might match up okay with them, but their second, third, etc. lines are all very good (on all positions), and in some cases could be running on other team's first lines.

Any given team can win on any given Sunday.

Sometimes anticipation can lead to boredom.

Here are the goals allowed on average per game for each of the A division final 4 teams over the course of the 2005 regular season.

Gonzaga - 10.64
Oregon - 6.6
Washington - 8.38
Simon Fraser - 8.69

Each of the later three teams played 13 games, while the Zags played 11.
Based on the average number of goals allowed per game, I presume that this weekend will culminate with hard hitting fast pace games with relatively small goal differentials.

I will add this for the sake of argument: Oregon has been prepping for the best the PNCLL has to offer!!! Our recent history suggests that we are a week fourth quarter team. Therefore, our focus this season has been to use the numbers we have been blessed with from our bench, including our 11th man, and run 110% for the entire game. Start strong and end strong.

I hope many of you will be able to make it up to the tournament this weekend. The best lacrosse talents of 2005 will be showcasing 6 of the bests games thus far this season.

On a side note, has there been any more speculation about the 2005 fall tournament? I would love to have an excuse to come back and play in the PNCLL in the years to come.
