Geez, a forfeit from Tulane? It makes you think that LSU should have at least gotten a chance to play in the playoffs. Did TSU have to show up in Houston only to get a forfeit? What was the story behind TU's forfeit?

We have six players out with injuries and have been playing shorthanded the last half of the season. Add that to the fact that Tulane is a very demanding school academically and that this week is one of the hardest of the year for most of us, and that sums up why we couldn't afford to make the trip. We tried to reschedule, but weren't able to come to an agreement with TSU. Its too bad we couldn't represent Tulane in the playoffs in our first year in the league, but hopefully next year we'll do a better job communicating and scheduling with the league so this won't be an issue.

Would LSU have been next to play in Tulane's spot or U of H?

Adam,

It somewhat surprising that you would use injuries as an excuse to not make a game. Academics understandable, but not injuries, every team has injuries, but you fight through them. Good luck to everyone in the playoffs this year.

Mavericks bring home another title.

Like I said, it was a combination. We fought through the same injuries all of the regular season, but this weekend, between the injuries and those who had other commitments, we would not have had enough to field ten players.

Echoing what Porter had said, it is an absolute shame that we could not make it to Houston to play in our first playoff game as a Division A team. It’s not like this was an ad hoc event, rather, it was most definitely something we had discussed with the league and had made efforts to attempt to circumvent. The kids worked hard this year; mind you it was honestly their first year of legitimate existence as far as I am concerned. This year was the first year that they traveled to play in Atlanta, St. Louis and in Tennessee, all places of which Tulane has never traveled to before. For that matter, I’m positive that Tulane hasn't traveled outside Louisiana or Texas the whole time the USLIA has been in existence. I for one am proud of the steps forward they made as a program. I came from a very well organized program and going from that to this group of students who were just learning the ropes insofar as organization goes, it was tough on me and on them. So please, do not criticize them nor harass them for this event any further. If you have any concerns, please contact me at mali@lsuhsc.edu and I would be happy to briefly entertain any and all questions regarding the matter. as a league, please be happy that this program is finally on it's feet and ready to go, minor set backs will happen along the way, but it's my personal responsibility as a coach to try to mediate as well as facilitate their growth as students and athletes, and if they make a mistake or cannot field a team of more than 9, such as this weekend, perhaps they can receive the benefit of the doubt just this once. I for one promise that this, all well willing, will not happen again in subsequent fortune.
