So over the last few years I have seen Goalies wear alot of different gear to protect themselves. From Arm Guards, Shin Guards, Football pants, Hockey Gloves, ect. I have also seen alot of field players give their goalies a hard time about it.
So, I want to know, if you field players steped between the pipes, what gear would you wear, and are you guilty of giving your goalies a hard time about gear?

I laugh at any goalie wearing shin guards. I find it too funny.
I played goalie a total of 6 games over my career at Iowa between fall and spring and probably played in about 20+ practices. I never wore anything special other then chest protector, helmet and gloves.

As a former goalie myself I always saw it as a badge of honor among field lacrosse goalies to wear a little padding as possible. Leave the saves made because of huge equipment to those cheaters in indoor lax and ice hockey. We make our saves due to our skill! Besides, a bruise equals a save.

Was it just me or did the goalie where the least amount of equipment on the field.
AND...I used shin guards, good way to get an equipment time out to slow things down.

Aaron, I can laugh at you for two things now, shin guards and that you went to Iowa State.

Being the goalie that I am I would laugh at any other goalie wearing shin guards. Its a given that if your a goalie and wear more than a helmet chest protector gloves and of course a cup that you will be made fun of. I will allow it if a goalie wears elbow pads, that doesnt seem too bad. But if you wear shin guards and football pants, you are truely soft.

funny thing about shin guards... when one makes a 'save' off their leg, it tends to hurt a lot more then if it were just bare skin.

I actually wear shin guards....but before you start mocking, you must understand my goalie style. For those who have seen my play they can understand...where a normal goalie would make 90% of their saves with their stick, I make about 60% with my body, so for me shin guards are a must. Plus I spend as much time practicing box as I do field, so its easier for me to use my legs as saving devices. However the shinguards I wear are made for field hockey field players, which are just foam.
We should get Alex's opinion on this.

One of our goalies used to not even wear a chest protector when we played; He said it was too restrictive. I thought he was insane...but then again, he is a goalie.

is that even legal to not wear one? I wouldn't be caught dead in cage with out my chest protector, but then again I wouldn't be caught dead in there with shin guards on either

Jim Beardmore is one of the best goalies of all time and he didn't wear a chest protector or a cup. I never wore shinguards but I did wear those stupid "goalie pants" that Warrior game out with for cold practice days. Never in games, but they were a must in the winter time. Brian Dougherty wears a shin guard on one leg (I think his stick side leg) where he must get hit a lot, but it is a legit lacrosse shin guard (by STX) not plastic soccer ones. I too, I'm afraid, must now mock Mase.
Always on point . . .

I heard or read somewhere, maybe last years NCAA finals, that Quint K (i'm not even going to try to spell his last name) didn't wear a chest protector throughout college and pro and started wearing one really recent.
