Players to Watch in the WCLL

Players to Watch in the WCLL

Postby Replay on Mon Jan 24, 2005 3:03 pm

As games are just around the corner, I was wondering who are going to be the players to look for on the various teams in the WCLL?

Is this aside from the numerous All Americans that already litter the various WCLL teams?

If you want some not so new names, perhaps these players will begin to get some recognition. UCSB Senior defensemen Mike Towers, Brendan Lucker & Dave Gorham make up the defensive unit that went 25 games last year without once giving up double digits in goals against. That is pretty impressive and yet these guys don't get the accolades that they deserve. Perhaps this year they will get their long overdue notice for AA status.

I'm sure you guys already know this guys name, but Nick Dean from UCSD is amazing. I think he is only a junior, but he is one of the best players in the WCLL.

That isn't pretty impressive that is scarey. What will they do this year with a returning goalie. My god!

For curiosity's sake:
Mike Towers 6'4 200 Campolindo High School Moraga CA
Brendan Lucker 6'2 175 Berkley High School Oakland CA
Dave Gorham 6'1 195 Lamar High School Houston TX

Perhaps not as big CSU starters or have their All American accolades this year, but lax wise they have to have the edge in better defense when they play each other in the First Four.
Averages for UCSB starting close defenders 6'2 190
Averages for CSU starting close defenders 6'0 208

Mike Towers

I played alongside Mike Towers for two seasons in high school for Acalanes and he is a superb player and great teammate. He's only gotten better over the last 3 years and I'm pulling for him this season...

Simply stated: UCSB's D is OVERRATED. They're obviously lazy hacks who spend to much time in the box. They only get their good name because the O has the ball on attack all day and keep the other teams O from even having a chance to make something happen against them.

Who are you and what do you know about lacrosse to make a statement like that? All of their poles are solid as hell, and although I'm not a big personal fan of Ryan Brittain, he is one of the very best goalies in the USLIA. "Lazy hacks"? Give me a break...

Sounds like a healthy dose of sarcasm to me. Perhaps G-Unit is making fun of his own defensive unit?

I would feel like an idiot if that were the case. If it is, my apologies, if not, my statement stands

Very unlikely. You never see current Sonoma players on these boards.

Please. This is a D unit, and a team, that gets penalties like it's their job.
