NFL Draft

Postby Brent Burns on Wed Apr 20, 2005 2:56 pm

I guess everyone is not crazy about the NFL draft that would take place this weekend. Who do you think will be the #1 draft pick? I find it interesting that there is not much hype on this year's drafts.

I am more interested in seeing who would pick up Derrick Johnson (#11) from the University of Texas since I know he graduated from Waco High School.

What use does San Francisco have for a former goalie from CSU??

Oh, the other Alex Smith. Braylon Edwards is the best player available. Mike Williams second. None of the QB's in the first round will be franchise players.

An excellent statement. This of course doesn't change the fact that San Francisco is going to take a quarterback for the #1 pick. Oh, and I hope Maurice Clarett doesn't get drafted. I hate that guy.

I was working with some lady over the phone from Utah and she was pretty excited that I share a name with this guy. You are right, I don't see any of these quarterbacks (at least in the top tier) being franchise qbs. I do like the leadership ability and poise of Jason Campbell of Auburn and think he might turn into a Tom Brady-type player later in his career. ESPN is not to high on the 49ers taking Smith first, saying that they should take Williams as well. He is my "best available."
Always on point . . .

Yeah, but if they take williams first and they have no one to pass to him, what good is he anyway?

My random thoughts about the draft:

-I don't see all this hype about Alex Smith, he doesn't impress me. I think Rodgers could be good but nothing special.

-I think Mike Williams is a stud, best player in the draft.

-I am also on the "I hope Clarett doesn't get drafted" bandwagon. He would finish third in a race with a pregnant woman.

-I really hope Matt Roth goes to the Colts, they would then have ex-Iowa studs in Bobby Sanders and Dallas Clark along with roth. Slowly becoming more and more of a Colts fan.

-Also hope ex-Hawkeye Sean Considine gets drafted in the 2nd round and makes it. Great story of another walk-on that Iowa turned into a great football player, if not playing safety, he is a hell of a special teams player.

I had the privilege of heading down to the sideline in the last few minutes of the UW-Utah game this fall and Alex Smith throws darts! The only downside to him is that he played in Urban Meyer's shotgun, gimic, spread offense. However, scouts have been raving about him since seeing his private workouts.

I don't care if the guy runs a 4.5, 40 Mike Williams is going to be a stud.

Mo Clarett has improved his draft stock, but is still too untouchable to go any higher than the sixth round.

What will happen with Adrian McPherson? I think the kid screwed up royally but he's paid for his mistakes and hasn't tried to blame anyone but himself.

draft

Postby GeorgiaLacrosse on Thu Apr 21, 2005 1:25 am

I think alex smith will go # 1... thats what it looks like right now. Mike Williams is probably the best player in the draft but i think edwards is pretty much just as good if not as good, but i feel bad that he'll probably end up in chicago because thats not a great place for him... look what happend to david terrel there.

As for D. Johnson... i think either he or merriman will end up being picked 10th by the cowboys

I think its hilarious that David Greene ran a faster 40 time then clarrett

and i'm hoping the williams somehow slides to the 9th pick but i know the vikings will probably get him with the 7th so i think the skins will get jones at CB and hopefully a good reciever like clayton with the 25th pick... i really hope we don't get rogers from auburn because i watched him in the sec this year and i wasn't too impressed eventhough he is much better then he was last year

-Go Skins

Rumor has it that the Minnesota Vikings will take Mike Williams with the #7 pick. Could be a good trade-off... lose Randy and gain a hard worker and fantastic athlete in Williams.

I also am very intested to see where Pollack goes. Probably one of the hardest working players coming through this year. Not easy being a Georgia fan in Minnesota.

I put A. McPherson in the same category as Clarett, though he's even more physically gifted (he put up 225 lbs 22 times). The guys has some serious problems mentally. He doesn't seem to take any responsibility for what he did and seems to be taking the typical "The Man keeping me down" stance. Of course I may be a little bitter because he actually threw the NC State game and stuck us with two more years of the Chris Rix Experience. Watch the Skins take him with the 9th pick and then my head explode.

The last I heard, S.F. wanted Smith, he wanted Eli Manning money, now S.F. is in negotiations with Rodgers...who Miami wanted and will now trade down for both of the Vikings first round picks so Minnesota can move to two and take Edwards.God I love the draft.
