Playoff predictions

Now that the LSA final dance is about to take place, how does everyone think it is going to shake out. Should be interesting, I see 4 teams that could possibly win it.

A&M and Tech in the finals. Aggies over tech.

Tech/ t.u. game will be a doozie though.

Scratch that ---- apparently that scenario can't happen.... let me rethink and post again. hahahahhaha

TAMU 33,

A&M and Tech cannot match up in the finals. Texas will play the winner of TxState v Tulane in the semi's and A&M will play the winner of Tech v UNT in the semi's.

It should be interesting....I think Tech will beat UNT and meet A&M in the Semi, and Tx St. will beast Tulane and meet Texas. Then you have A&M v. Tech and Texas v. Tx St, both of which were close games and both of which the "underdog" (and I use quotes here) won last time. That could leave any combination for the championship game. As I said should be interesting.

After we know the outcome of the third game (meaning SFA and UTA) this Saturday, I would like to see the focus shift to LSA Div B playoffs, too. We all know that Southwestern is waiting in the wings to know who their opponent will be.

I agree with Mr. Anderson (sounds like the Matrix) and I will go further and say that A&M will beat UNT in the semis and lets give TXST the nod for the other spot. I will then venture to say that in a close game A&M wins it. (of course I am biased)

But the way this season has been going I wouldn't be surprised if UNT and TXST met in the finals and TXST takes it all ---- you heard it here first!

I'd have to agree, I think TXST will take it all. They are playing the strongest lacrosse coming into the playoffs. In fact I think that the UT/TXST game will be the one to watch!
Wow, this is amazing so many post. and they have all been on topic. Thanks guys! Either way it should be an interesting playoff. Is this the first or second year with the 6 team playoff field? Didn't in the past it used to be 4. Just curious. Keep the playoff predictions coming!

The only matchup not set yet is who will be playing Trinity in the first round. Southwestern will play St. Ed's, Trinity will play the winner of the SFA/UTA game.

Gotta go with this:

Semis: Tech vs. TAMU
TSU vs. Texas

TAMU seems to be playing a little flat lately, most likely due to age and so many OOC losses. Texas is talented but lacks any noticeable threats, aside from good team cooperation. TSU beats Texas by 5 and Tech beats TAMU in a close one.

Finals: Tech vs. TSU :

TSU has been playing real solid lacrosse lately, and from what I hear, with a lot of heart. Tech now has something to prove after a tough loss to Texas. Tech wins in a 1 to 2 point game.

Go Tech!

TSU vs. Tulane - I look for TSU to handle Tulane in this one by 6 or 7 goals. TSU may be the best team in the LSA.

UNT vs. Tech - This is going to be the game of the weekend. Their first meeting this year was a great game. Both teams played hard, and the action was fast on the turf at Fouts. Tech answered UNT's push in the 3rd and 4th quarters and came away with an 11-9 win. I look for this game to be similar to the first. UNT is going to have to cut down on some mental mistakes that almost cost them the SMU game, but I think they will play their best game of the season and upset Tech by 1 or 2.

Southwestern vs, St. Eds - I'll take Southwestern in a close game. I haven't got to see St. Eds play this year though.

Trinity vs. UTA (I have UTA over SFA in a close game) - I have to go with Trinity in this one. Of course they'll have to adapt to a regulation size field, but I think they can handle it.

This weekends matchups:

TSU v. Tulane- I don't see the "real" TU being able to compete through the second half. I think TSU runs with this one, and takes ther game by 6+ goals.

UNT vs. Tech- Ahh, a great rematch for the Mean Green who is looking for revenge. I would like to see the underdog (unt) pull away with a win, but Tech is out with something to prove and they will win by 3+ goals.

Southwestern
vs. St. Eds- I haven't seen St Ed's play this year. That said, I have seen Southwestern play and believe they got what it takes to compete for the Div. B championship. Southwestern by 2 goals.

Trinity vs. UTA- I have seen UTA play and they look focused and ready to win , I predict UTA wins by 4 goals.

TxState vs. Tulane- We should be able to handle this easily barring another trip to Bourbon St before the night before the game

UNT vs. Tech- I think tech is the better team here but the better team doesn't always win and you gotta have one upset

TxState vs. Texas- if TxState plays like they can should be able to beat Texas by atleast 3

A&M vs UNT- a well rested A&M team deals with the Mean Green

TxState vs. A&M- these too teams have changed a lot since the first week of the season and it would be great retribution to beat the only team that beat us by more than 1

This is all wishful thinking and since i figure there are 4 teams that COULD win it, it's just going to come down to who can show up and play when it matters most, and then do it again in the championship 8)

Playoffs

This is the first year of the expanded playoff field. It was part of the discussion when Division A split into two divisions. With less games to pick seeds, we all agreed that an expanded playoff format would be the best way to pick the final four.

It also allows the LSA to showcase teams to area high schools by playing regional games at neutral sites in two big markets. This year it was arbitrarily decided by me to be Dallas and Houston. Next year by league vote, it may be Austin and New Orleans.

The Division A North game will be well attended because there are two high school games being played the same day at the same complex.

Overall, the expanded playoff format added a great atmosphere for the Division A league games, especially down the stretch when a win either way could send a team home.

Competition

Postby Arich12 on Wed Apr 20, 2005 9:20 pm

It is nice to see some new faces in the playoffs this year. For so many years (actually since the inception of the LSA I think) it was always some combination of A&M, Texas, and Tech in the championship game. None of the other teams have ever played in the championship to my knowledge.

I have not seen TSU play this year, but I never that I would see the day that they were mentioned as contenders. Let me make clear that I am not bashing their program at all. I know they improved dramatically in my four years. I just remember playing them in San Marcos my freshmen year when a fight broke out amongst their own team on their sidelines and at least one guy walked away in the middle of the game. Glad to see that in such a short period a team can make themselves serious contenders.
