More great news from the refs up North - all teams must have matching socks when playing at the crossover or your team will be penalized.
So make sure your team wears the appropriate makeup and panty hose or you will be in trouble. If you don't know me I play with red and white socks that are stripped like the cat in the hat or where's waldo. I have played nearly every game with these socks in my short lacrosse career and now I have to try to find 20-some more socks like mine for the whole team.
My Mom is going to be pissed she won't be able to pick me out as easily!
Do you have matching socks?!?!

This stuff does not come from the officials. They just enforce it. It comes from the NCAA rulebook, which we use in the MDIA. Things like matching socks and undershirts may seem trivial, but we decided long ago, on a national level, to play by NCAA rules. All teams have access to those rules. All teams are made aware that we play by those rules before they join the MDIA.

There's no mention of socks in rule 1-21. Only compression short, undershirts, and sweat pants

I have been wearing different socks than the majority of my teammates for three years and have never had an official question that my socks had to be the same as everyone else on my team. I just looked up in the 2005 NCAA rulebook, Section 21 On personel equipment and I could not find anything saying that everyone had to have the same socks. Below is that part of the rulebook
Personal Equipment
SECTION 21. a. Protective Equipment. All players shall wear protective
gloves, shoes and jerseys. All players except the designated goalkeeper
shall wear shoulder pads and arm pads. The designated goalkeeper shall
wear protective goalkeeper equipment (see 1-24-c). The cutting or altering of gloves and shoulder pads is prohibited. All players on a team must wear gloves of the same color. The throat protector and chest protector are required pieces of equipment for the goalkeeper, but the goalkeeper is not required to wear shoulder pads or arm pads.
b. Jerseys. The jerseys shall have numbers that are at least 6 inches high and centered on the front. Jersey numbers of at least 8 inches in height also must be centered on the back. It is recommended strongly that the jersey numbers be increased to heights of no less than 10 inches on the front and 12 inches on the back when team jerseys are replaced.
Under-jerseys, compression shorts or sweat pants may be worn, but if
visible to others, must be of a solid color that is limited to white, gray or
one of that team’s official colors. If some players on a team choose to wear under-jerseys, all of the players who choose to wear under-jerseys for that team must wear the same color of under-jersey. Under-jerseys also must be tucked in if they extend below the game jersey. Game jerseys must be tucked in if they extend below the waistband of the game shorts. If some players on a team choose to wear compression shorts, all of those players on that team must wear the same color of compression shorts. Also, if some players on a team choose to wear sweat pants, those players on that team must wear the same color of sweat pants. Shoe cleats shall be no longer than 1/2 inch.
On a side not, I think the biggest violation of this this that everyone must have the same color mouthguard, which I am sure not many do.

I agree jesse, one more stupid rule. But i noticed one thing while reading one of these posts about players having same color gloves. I noticed your #8 and another player were wearing red and white gloves and green and white gloves while the rest of your team wears black and white. #8 also has some stickers from his HS team on his helmet. you may want to correct these things if you can so you avoid another potentially unecessary penalty.

Division B rules are exactly the same as Divsion A rules. But you guys are right - I don't see anything in the rules about socks. Your conference is free to impose more stringent rules, but nationally we go by NCAA rules for both A and B. In this case, you might want to check with your conference administration to see if this is something they decided on.

We discussed this on our executive board conference call last night. The rules for the Crossover are the same as NCAA rules just like any other game. It has been communicated to the ref assigner that players whose equipment does not match (gloves, helmets, etc) will not be allowed to play.

Did that communication include socks?
On another incidental issue - if a player loses a shoe during a play does the ref need to blow the whistle and stop play while he puts it back on?
I don't believe so, since a shoe is not a listed piece of safety equipment, but I'm curious if you've ever encountered anything different.

If he has the ball... yes. I would stop play as a safety issue to protect the player with the ball.

As for the matter of two of our players having different colored gloves and the helmet stickers, we always checked with the refs to see if they wanted us to correct it. We had the proper equipment if they wanted our guys to change, but they said that they'd allow it until we got to the Crossover. What's the point of enforcing policy only one weekend of the entire season?
As someone who never wore socks that matched the ones of my teammates, I obviously disagree with this policy. I know it makes us look more organized and more like a team, but I always enjoyed being the only one wearing black knee-high socks.

.
It should have been enforced the entire season. It will be, for a fact, enforced during crossover and the conference tournament
