At Iowa, Tuesday and Thursday are days the Bubble goes to club sports. So between the 9 clubs that need access to it, it gets split into 1 hours sessions from 8-9, 9-10, 10-11, 11-12. Each year, you alternate the time you get and you split half the field with another team which the men's lacrosse team does with women's soccer club. Right now they have the 9-10 PM shift but they meet in the Rec Center next to the Bubble at 8 PM to do conditioning and leftover time to do weights if you want to do some. Then next year they get the 10-11 shift and so on. I was also able to talk our Rec Services Director 2 years ago into giving us the Bubble on Sundays from 8-9:30 PM so a little more time. It kind of sucks they only get an hour of practice time each day they are in the Bubble but that's what the school gives them and it is indoor so can't complain too much.

Like John Paul mentioned above about golf team coming in, our's tried kicking us out at one of our games thinking they had the Bubble to practice their putting and short game but luckily they just left as we did have the time.

BYU is very fortunate to have a very large indoor practice facility. Coach Lamb is able to schedule time in there and the hours are usually late afternoon or early evening. We also have access to a full turf field outside if we want to brave the cold and snow when it comes. We are really in a good situation here as far as facility use is concerned. Coach Lamb has really forged a good relationship with administration folks in order to allow us time in these facilities.

What happened to BYUs Debeer sponsorship? How did you get that STX deal?

I believe BYU's relationship with STX came from Coach Lamb working the STX camps this past summer. According to their website it's a long-term deal.

Seems like everyone has the same issues. We are inside from either 6:30 to 8:30 or 8:30 to 10:30 in an Aux gym. We luck out because we get to practice in the football stadium once a week and have been able to schedule a few games on the blue turf for 2005. It's in the cold but it's a way to get outside.

And most importantly, it's on the Smurf Turf. If I would consider scheduling a game at Boise for that pure fact if I was still playing.

It's Tight

Postby Andy Sharp on Thu Feb 03, 2005 12:36 am

Calvin gives us decent times, but we are not talking field time . . . we get a single basketball court with about a foot of extra room before the large cinder block walls. Maybe once a week we get the two basketball court gym. It works great for wall ball, got guys throwing >60 reps per minute, but when it comes to game action we're talking 3 on 3 max with 25 guys lining the wall. You should see our clears and fast breaks!

A new gym is planned, we just need a 10 million dollar donation, a small hurdle.

Are we the only team that practices in the snow? I guess it comes from the lack of acess to an indoor facility...there is one, but Varsity gets it first and it closes, like everything at Mines, at 10 pm. We also have alot of conflicts with Labs, being an engineering only school, and so we practice 5 days a week, with turn outs of 25 on MWF and 10 on TH because of labs.

But, like last year we practiced in 11 inches one day....I cant think of a time we let it stop us, just hard to work on ground balls.

I can't imagine playing goal in that stuff either, that ball hurts enough as it is, but to get a cold frozen ball in the leg or arm, man you got to be crazy

We get a grass field (slightly smaller than regulation size) three days per week from 7-10pm, and a mix grass/turf field that is part of the football team's practice facility once a week from 7-9pm.

We're pretty happy with this arrangement since in years past we only got 2-3 days/week. In addition, the school is re-doing our typical home field, so to have 4 days of practice without even having our field available is great. Once that field is complete we'll be even better off.

At USD we have the DakotaDome, which is a very spacious place. The only problem (other than our school not liking us that much) is our basketball court and the bleachers sit right in the middle of the floor on the "infield" of the track. The space our school lets us have for practice is a small strip of floor between the wall and the last lane of the track. The floor is rubber and slippery...it's almost impossible to scoop on that crap. We practice from 9-11 pm...that seems to be the only time people aren't incredibly busy. It's not ideal, but we'll take what we can get.

We have no indoor facility. On the turf field, under the lights from 8-10 pm. It was fun last night in the inch of snow that fell during practice. At least we could draw a crease in the snow!

We have our own practice field, it has a creek on two sides, a tree on the endline and some nice little hills around the midfield line. I think one side of our field is higher than the other too. We basically practice in whatever weather conditions we get with yesterday being in the rain and slop. We tried to go inside last year and just got laughed at, oh well.

As I recall, Mizzou has to practice in a "horse barn" and schedule practices around horse, cattle and mule auctions. I imagine they all love that.
