Tonight's Westminster/Lovett game is huge. In addition to being one of the classic prep school rivalries in Atlanta, The loser of the game will be on Lassiter's side of the playoff bracket.

Here are the project area winners and runner ups:

Area 1:

Just a "weather comparison"

Here in MN, HS ball begins April 11. And y'all are talking about playoffs over the next 3 weeks.

Regular season ends for High schools the Friday of the SELC tournament (April 22). High school playoffs begin on April 27th. Semifinals on May 3rd. Finals on May 7th.

Lovett beat Westminster last Friday night by 3 or 4. Updated (projected) 1st round high school playoff contests (scheduled for Wed, April 27th):

I have a quick question that perhaps Sonny, or any other involved in Georgia lacrosse, might be able to answer.

Why on earth did the GHSA have it so only 2 teams from each division get accepted into the playoffs? With 32 teams, more than last year, they reduced the number of teams in the playoffs from 12 to 8 while the number of teams participating in the league increased. I agree with the NFL philosophy of having a larger percentage of teams in the playoffs, especially when so many teams deserve to be there.

Also, who organized the divisions? Area 1 has 8 teams, Area 3 has 9 teams, Area 4 has 9 teams, and Area 2 has 6 teams. Isn't that a little unfair? Its not location, because some of the schools in competing divisions are right next to each other.

I'm not sure how exactly they decided the GHSA area assignments for boys lacrosse. But it was done early in the fall by the GHSA with input from all the various coaches. I also think it is done on a gender neutral basis (the areas are mostly the same for both girls and boys lacrosse). A few teams dropped out after the area assignments were made, thus they are unbalanced slightly.

2005 AREA ASSIGNMENTS

Assignments to areas are made by the Georgia High School Association (GHSA). Area assignments in lacrosse are made based on geographic location of schools, not level of play or size of school. All high schools play in the same classification for lacrosse. Schools that elect to add lacrosse after areas have been assigned have the option of playing in 2005 with a non-area schedule.

According to GHSA by-laws, the top two teams from each area qualify for the playoffs. Playoff brackets have been mailed to all head coaches by the GHSA as of September 1, 2004. They are also posted on the GeorgiaLax home page. Tri-Cities High School and Tucker High School registered for lacrosse and were assigned to Area 2, but have since decided not to field teams in 2005.

Wesleyan beat Woodward 7 to 4 last night to clinch a playoff spot and eliminate Woodward from the playoffs.

Wesleyan at Lassiter is confirmed for one quarterfinal game now on Wed, 4/27.

i think the UGA GT game being played as a showcase for georgia highschools is a great way for the expansion of georgia lacrosse.... as well as a great atmosphere for the game
im not from the state of georgia, but i still like to see it expand since i live here now

also the SELC tourny will be great as well!

(I think the only way Lovett doesn't host Milton (game 3) is if they somehow lose their final Area game to Holy Innocents.)

lovett v west minster game is what we seem to be headed for.

these two schools really like each other so it always makes for a good game.

Lassiter definitely appears vulnerable. They lost to MBA of Tennessee last Saturday before last night's lackluster performance against Wesleyan at home (Westminster beat MBA and Memphis Univ. School this season. Two teams that Lassiter lost to.) Apparently, Lassiter lost one of their best midfielders to injury recently and he was in a cast on the sidelines last night.

Pace/Lovett was a two-goal win for Lovett in the regular season. Pace was up by three goals early in that game. So Pace can definitely run with Lovett.

Both semi's should be incredible games next Tuesday night.
