Saturday, April 9th
#23 Washington at #11 Oregon
Gonzaga at #24 Simon Fraser
#19B Western Washington at #11B Puget Sound
Albertson at #16B Montana
Southern Oregon at Lewis & Clark
Western Oregon at Willamette
Sunday, April 10th
Whitman at Central Washington
Southern Oregon at Willamette
Posting early this week to allow more time for posts and talk about the big showdown games looming on the schedule. New Top 25 Polls out later in the week for both A and B divisions.
There are three games with playoff implications in the B Division: Western Oregon at Willamette on Saturday, Whitman at Central Washington on Sunday, and especially Western Washington in Tacoma for a rematch with Puget Sound on Saturday. These two couldn't figure out who was better the first time around, and decided to play some extra o.t. periods just to be sure. The only upset in WWU-UPS II would be if somebody actually won, in sixty minutes, by two goals or more goals.
UPS still controls its own fate to win the B-North race, but a pair of losses to Western and to PLU the following week could not only cost the Loggers the Division title, it could even knock them entirely out of the playoffs! We all knew that the B-North was the toughest division, and that losses to each other could hurt UPS, PLU and WWU from all making the playoffs. Either UPS or PLU will win the division. PLU has all but sewn up at an at-large bid and can still win the Division. UPS can win it, but can drop all the way out. Western must win out and get some help, and UPS losing twice could be the ticket for the Vikings.
Bottom line is that there are three at-large spots up for grabs and B-North won't likely get two. Whitman and Western Oregon can grab a spot each.
Kyle will be along to talk in depth about Washington at Oregon and Gonzaga at Simon Fraser -- two rather important games in the A Division race.

I am looking forward to our game against washington this saturday. Washington has suprised everyone with their strong performance this year. So I don't anticipating seeing the same team that we beat twice last year, I imagine that the huskies will be a good opponent.
As for the gonzaga game, it all depends on how SFU comes out to play. if they come out flat like they've done earlier this year, gonzaga has a chance to beat them but if they play up to the level that they are capable of, I don't think that they will have any problems beating the bulldawgs.

There's not a lot I can say about our A division games... and all 4 teams should be in the playoffs.... a little precurser perhaps.
UW (3-0)
UO (1-1)
Gonzaga (2-1)
SFU (3-1)
Pretty interesting when you look at the division records. SFU isn't even ranked at this point in time, most seem to have given up on them, but they're 3-1 in the division. They handed UO their only division loss at Oregon early in the season, say what you will, but they are going to be tough, and they will be in the playoffs. UW is also in the playoffs, and control their own destiny if they want the number 1 seed.
As far as the UW v Oregon Matchup.... in my opinion....
Goalie.... Edge goes to Oregon. Cordova has a bit more experience, but a lot more experience in big games than UW's Tony Maack. Both goalies are very good, and neither team is hurting in cage.
Defense.... this is a tough one. Oregon kept both Michigan and Colorado under 10 goals. As far as common opponents go; UO let the PLU attack score 2, UW 7, both games were very early in the season, and UW team seems to be very turned around. I'm going to give this one a push, because I can't make a decision. UW is not the same team they were when they allowed PLU 12, they just allowed Western Washington 3, and allowed SFU 2, 1 attack goal. Oregon allowed 7 against SFU, 6 of which came from the attack.
Midfield.... Oregon. I'd say their big advantage lies here, but UW does have a good counter. Ernst and Coffman are a tough group to handle. Both are very explosive, and don't have problems scoring at will, they are Oregon's 1 and 2 scorers this season. UW's Weitz and Sonkin are a tough group to handle. Toss in Sangeorzan and Newman, and Oregon may have a problem. UW seems to have a unique rotation and offense that allows everyone to play any position. Only 1 of the players I listed is listed as a midfielder, but all will play midfield before the day is done. Could be very intersting. Both teams are very quick in the midfield.
Attack.... Push. I want to give the slight edge to UW, but both teams have different strengths. Connors has a deadly shot standing or on the run. UW's Sonkin averages over 5 points per game. UO's Nelson did a lot of finishing and feeding last season, but has been cut out of the offense a bit, and now only averages a point a game. Sangeorzan is a newer name at UW, but is playing very well averaging over 2ppg. Taylor Schofield is also out of the offense a bit, averaging less than 1ppg. Riley Newman is also averaging over 3ppg for UW, and as usual, will be a go to guy for the Huskies. Now, Oregon has played the best this season, and that will show in their ppg.
Overall, this may look like it gives Oregon the advantage, and our poll shows that people think Oregon will win by 6-9... The major problem I have with that, is the game is played as a team. Regardless of individual players, making your teammates better is going to be the biggest factor in this game. Can Oregon get the ball to Connors for open cranks? or can UW get the second or third slide there in time? Can anyone stop Sonkin from getting to the goal? or when you do that, do you leave Newman, Weitz, and Sangeorzan too open near the net? The game should be very interesting, and I don't think a Oregon takes UW by 9, the game should be close. If it goes in anyone's favor, I would pick UW to push forward by a few goals. Not because UW is a better team, but because they have nothing to lose. They are still trying to prove themselves this year, and no matter what they do, they're not breaking into the top 20. On the other hand, Oregon just got done with 2 close games against Michigan and Colorado. They've played one of the toughest schedules in the country, and will be a good barometer to see if UW is as good as they've shown the last month or so. One advantage for Oregon, a home game. Could be some rowdy Ducks in the stands cheering their team on, or more likely trying to make the Huskies cry. Good luck to both teams!
Gonzaga vs. SFU is a very tough game to call, and I'm tired, sick, and a bit burned out, so this will be short. I can't really gauge how SFU will come out. They seemed poised to take on Oregon from the start of the season, and injuries have taken their toll since. Gonzaga is playing some very good lacrosse, beating Oregon State by the same score as SFU, 1 goal. Both times OSU was without their leading scorer Tipton I believe. Overall, the SFU defense, and Rick Kladis should be the deciding factor. Yuen is quick enough to keep up with Rick, but he needs to keep his impact on the game to a minimum. Last season he had 4g3a against the Clan in a game that ended up 23-15 in favor of the Clan. Can the Clan put in another 23 against the Zags?

Kyle...you're a budding journalist with such talant (despite being tired & burnt out...would a journalist actually say that in an "article?").
ha ha. Wish there was a way to be in both Eugene and Vancouver at the same time to watch these 4 teams play. Good luck to all.

Ooohhhh, poor baby.
Just playin Kyle...good write-up. 3 years ago, we almost took the game against SFU in BC despite having two cars broken into and our goalie's equipment stolen the night before. Should be quite a game and quite the night-life for my boys--despite the outcome.

Kyle, let me get this straight. You think the Washington-Oregon game will be very close and your taking the purple guys?! There's a good chance this could happen, why don't you give me a score. I will give you mine. I think it will be 9-5 with the Ducks on top. What Is It!!

I haven't seen the Ducks play this year, and to tell you the truth, I never want to route for the purple and gold, but they took SFU by 12, when you guys lost by 2. I know you're still the team to beat, and SFU was very EARLY in the season, plus you took Michigan to OT because you're a part of a great team, but we play the games for a reason. Me picking a score would only fuel you guys more, so I won't share my score with the public (just a few close friends). I just don't think anyone can count out Washington, I really hate to say that. They were probably my most hated rival, just ahead of Whitman, while playing. I believe in coach Hush and his system, his guys can play with anyone, when they show up, and get up for the game. Just like your Ducks.
After what happened to UW in St. Louis a few years ago, no one wants to give them any credit, and I can't blame them, I still don't want to, but they're a decent enough team. Please post the score of the game as soon as you get back, I'll love to see it, right or wrong. We have a very tough home game for us against Western Washington so I'll be in town to check uslia.com. Best of luck to both teams.
Chris, I don't know you very well, but that won't stop me from punching you in the arm next time I see you. Have a good night.

Well since no one seems to be sayin much about the B-games i'll go ahead and put myself out there and make a few predictions on these games. Im gonna take puget sound over Western Washington in a squeaker but with as little as i really know about these teams thats just based on their previous games and checking scores between common opponents which i know is really about as useful as hornets on a summer day. Im the first Southern Oregon, Lewis and clark game southern pounded them but things have changed since then. Injuries have hurt the raiders and Lewis and Clark has gotten back key players so im going to take them in a barn burner, but it should be a reasonable game. Im also going to not make any predictions on the wou, wilamette game because i just dont want to. Im going to reach a tiny bit and take Central washington over whitman in a close one. I think Central plays a little tighter d and does there best to contain Sadler(good Luck). Oh lets not forget Montana, Albertson who must find a scorer. This goalie of theirs sounds pretty sick but i think this one is out of his hands, montana will get past this one with the W. Then for the grand finale, willamette gets it first W against Southern in a repeat of what happened last weekend only vice versafied. I wont comment on the A league games cuz i know nothing about those teams except that niehuser plays for the Zags and Tolzy plays for the ducks which is cool cuz i played with both of them. Good luck to all this weekend.

WouMiddie, you would be correct in what you have heard about the Albertson goalie, Blake Gaudet is one of the craftiest netminders in this whole conference. He's quick and smart- don't let his size fool you. I'd also like to wish Albertson good luck this weekend- any team that has to face Montana is gonna need it- those guys are fierce.

I appreciate the UPS prediction, but last game was a triple OT contest, and this one should also be anyone's game. WWU reminds me of Montana. Great sticks everywhere, and a fierce defense to match.
The B has a several interesting games this weekend. CWU is coming off two tough games, and really could raise their level of play. Last season I was very impressed with what Central was doing, and this year I am also. A few injuries could slow them down, but they are building a very strong foundation for a second year team. I haven't seen Whitman play this year, but they should be atleast as strong as last year. Sadler is going to be strong as always, but what has always made him so affective, is how he feeds if the double comes. The guy simply sees the field very well. Off the top of my head, I think WWU 16 Whitman 10. Central played WWU tough early in the year, 12-7 I believe, the game could be very close if Central can keep Sadler off the books. I wonder who else on Whitman is going to put goals in the net? There are 3 other Whitman players with 2+ppg, and Ben is only averaging a bit under 8. The game should come down to CWU's D, and possession time on offense.

WOU 7, Willamette 2
Great game, good times. Both teams have improved immensely since we last played. Both cut each other's score from our last meeting in half (last game WOU 14, WU 4)
WOU is a good team, I don't mean to hate on them here, but I don't know how far they can go in the playoffs. They are the best of the bottom half of the league, that's for sure, but to move to the next level they need to find more scorers than their #6. If they can do that they will start to pull upsets, but for now, that #6 is running things and has no legit scorers to help him.
Don't take it the wrong way WOU, remember I play for a crappier team and am well aware of my own shortcomings. Good luck on the rest of the season!

Hey Bearcat no worries, and thanx for the props. We are fairly aware of where we stand and of our shortcomings, we just have learned to do the best with what we have. Great game out there today, you guys played very well and had us worried, good luck tomorrow at southern. If you guys play like you did first half i think it should be a great game. Also does anyone have the whitman cwu score. Id love to know how this one turned out.

Very close game. I think quite a few teams got lucky that Western Washington is out of the playoffs now.
