SELC A Week 11 (4/6-4/12) Discuss, Predict, Report Scores…

Postby Thriller on Fri Apr 08, 2005 2:09 pm

I know all the facts, and the game was cancelled two weeks ago. I just don't think people should be making comments on the situation when they don't know either side of the story. I agree with ncsulacrosse, it is between the two teams and the league. If any infractions were made then they will be dealt with.

UCF vs. Vandy game is on for Saturday at Auburn.

Great! So all the commotion was for nothing. Glad to see that the game is on as scheduled & committed to last September.

Vandy knew what they were getting into when they reapplied to the conference. Their "shot" has already been taken.

If you don't want people to comment on a situation, perhaps it would be wiser not to post anything about it on a public forum. Once you've posted it there, it's open game for the public to comment as they wish, IMHO. You made the original announcement on this board, so you opened it up for public comment. If you have a beef with anyone about this, it probably is yourself.

It maybe between Vandy and the league, but tell us what we are missing Thriller. Cancelling a game two weeks out from game day due to fraternity formals just doesn't cut in the SELC & MDIA.

i dont think its right at all, just wondering, other than the fact that this is the A discussion and not B.

Catlax, the game had no barring on the playoffs so don't make that argument. I am sure if it was a mandatory game it would have been different. besides, its getting played, all sides are happy.

If all sides are happy then let it go! It doesn't have to be a mandatory game to have a bearing on the playoffs, especially with regard to seeding. Vandy is still eligible (remotely) for a playoff spot.

u've just proved my point, don't comment on what you don't know about. vanderbilt is out of the playoffs. they are 2-2, w/ losses to georgia and gt. so even if gt loses to SC and UGA, they will be 2-2 w/ the head to head over vanderbilt.

also, UCF wasn't mandatory, so the only way it could affect anything if vanderbilt was in the playoffs would be all the way to the 5th seeding tiebreaker, which would be so unlikely to ever get to because3 and 4 take care of almost every possibility.

if any of the above is wrong ( if i missunderstood a playoff tie breaker rule or something ) then i appologize. but i'm pretty sure the above is correct.

So let me get this straight, it's okay to tank a game if you appear to be out of the playoffs? Let me remind you that last year a team couldn't make it to the playoffs and the spot was offered to the next team in line, so unless the bids have gone out, anything is possible and they have a fifth tie breaker for a reason!

So in reality it appears that you have only considered what you can comprehend and not what is possible. "There are more things in heaven and earth then are dreamt of in your philosophy Heratio!"

The bottom line is the game should never have been cancelled for such a bogus reason. The fact that it was reinstated after Vandy was called onto the carpet speaks volumns about whether or not our comments are appropriate!

FSU 18
USF 3

There was an apparent mess-up between the teams as to what time the game started. USF was only able to bring 12 players, but did an outstanding job despite the situation. They played hard the whole game and were a class act for the way they handled the situation.

UGA 11
Clemson 6

Georgia was up 10-3 in the fourth and clemson didn't give up and I think both benches cleared giving everyone playing time. Clemson's president told me that south carolina only showed up last night with 10 guys but they also said that south carolina was going to be able to field a whole 13 guys for GT today but I guess we were all wrong.
