Best rivalries in Uslia

Postby GeorgiaLacrosse on Fri Apr 08, 2005 2:38 pm

Today, Prep plays Landon (one of one of the biggest high school lacrosse rivalries in the nation)
This has made me bring up this question
what are the biggest uslia rivalries?

In our conference it would have to be BC vs. UNH. UNH used to be top dog, and then BC entered and has been a roadblock to them returning to nationals the past two seasons. Some bad blood there.

Agreed. This game has been a top 5 matchup in the regular season, RMLC playoffs, and/or the national tournament for the better part of six seasons now.

I know I might catch some flack for proposing this, but in the LSA there is quite a rivalry b/n UT and A&M. It seems like they meet nearly every year in the Finals to decide who goes to Nationals, and when they play it is always a highly physical matchup. These schools just don't like each other (in any sport), but have mutual respect for each other's program. I can tell you last year in the LSA Championships there were a few tears shed on the A&M sidelines after UT took their invitation to St. Louis away from them.

I would agree the UT v. A&M game is huge, but given that neither are contending for a top 5 spot, top or top 20 spot, it has lost some of its luster. Inside the LSA, it is still a big game and should be interesting to see how the playoffs play out this year.

I can't remember the last time that the LSA got an At Large Bid, I would think that since only one team is going to Nationals it would make this game that much more important. After all, when was the last time a team other than Ut or A&M made the tourney? Was it Trinity in like '97? I don't know, but it seems like this is a huge game for the LSA and also in the USlia in deciding who represents the LSA at Nationals.

Now that WVU has joined the league, I expect the WVU-Pittsburgh "Backyard Brawl" to rank right up there soon. Never short of big hits, trash talk, cheap shots and fights in the NCLL, expect the same, especially since Pitt embarrassed the young WVU team a week ago. These two schools HATE each other. Years spent fighting each other for the old Allegheny Division title (NCLL) has forced this school rivalry to spill out onto the lacrosse field. They may not be top ten teams, but the pure hatred gives this match-up the rivalry sense in its truest form.

May not mean a whole lot to anyone else, but when USC plays UCLA in anything it is heated. It is a long standing nasty cross-town rivalry. We hate them, they hate us. Oh yeah, USC 7 UCLA 5 on Wed. Fight On!

UCSB v. Sonoma has been a fierce rivalry dating back before the MDIA was even in existence.

I would say that Oregon vs. Simon Fraser is a pretty good rivalry. These two teams hate each other and there is always a ton of trash talking before, during, and after the games.

The U of M and Oakland rivalry has been getting bigger and bigger, especially after last year!

Hard to top CSU v. BYU, as they are (I believe) the only two teams to have won the USLIA (now MDIA) national championship more than once, in addition to perennially being basically at the top of their conference as rivals.

In the PNCLL, I'd agree with Oregon SFU, or well, Oregon anyone... They're the guys with the target on their backs.

In the B, UPS and PLU is really coming into its own. Both teams in the top 10, and our game next week might determine the winner of our Division. The fact that myself and another coach played at PLU only fuels the fire a bit more.
