Fraternities

Postby WyoPoke on Wed Apr 06, 2005 9:47 pm

We've had a thread for majors, how about fraternities. I know there are a couple of Kappa Sigs that post on this board.

I'm an SAE. There are currently three SAEs and two Pikes on the UW squad. What about you guys and your teams?

I was not in a fraternity -I never cared for them- , but almost all of my players are. The fraternities represented on our team are Pi Kappa Alpha, Delta Tau Delta, Phi Delta Theta, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

My brother and I are in Delta Tau Delta (Theta Eta) and USC has some Chi Psi's and a Sigma Chi...in the past there have been a lot of Sig Ep's....the majority have been GDI's though....

If you need a laugh at fraternity life, whether you're in one or not, this site's equally funny... www.fratty.net

Thanks for the fratty.net recommendation. Tongue-in-cheek satire done very nicely.

I am a Lambda Lambda Lambda, we have an awesome branch out here at Adams College. Only problem is Ogre and the rest of those darn Alpha Beta's keeps taking all our dates and putting pigs in our frat house we remodeled from a real dump. They are just jealous we have the highest GPA on campus. We won the Fraternity Olympiad and have control of the Fraternal counsil! Haha, NERDS Rule!!!!

Anyone else peeved at those that refer to fraternities as "frats?" Am I making a big deal about this? I was told to never refer to my fraternity as a "frat" because it's disrespectful. Anyone agree/disagree?

That little item is on page 13 of our pledge education manual.

"Never say 'Frat.' Use of this colloquialism is an indication that you are not properly familiar with fraternity usage. Always refer to Sigma Alpha Epsilon as your Fraternity and show other Greek-letter organizations the same consideration."

I know it was a HUGE no-no around my chapter. However, I've known a few men in other chapters that use the vile word. EVery time I hear it it's like nails on a chalkboard. It sounds like people say it with such a condescending tone. People find out you are a member of a fraternity and they reply, "Oh, you were in a frat." It's like their image of you changes from respectable to a womanizing, overprivileged, elitist booze-hound.

And if you correct their use of the term, it proves that particular point even more.
