We will not be keeping score in our scrimmages. They are half games in length, and then we're going to situational practice (EMO/MDD, Rides/Clears, etc.).

Notre Dame Game Cancelled
Due to a policy of club vs varsity sports at Notre Dame, the game was cancelled. It is unfortunate but it will give us more time to prepare for the game on 2/20 against St. Vincent.

Are you serious? that is weak. What is the policy, I would have loved to see that go down. Why exactly was it cancelled?

Who's policy? Several club teams play NCAA teams each year. If this was a school policy, why did they schedule the game in the first place with Oakland?

Notre Dame Policy
I won't speak for Kevin Corrigan regarding his policy. Kevin and I spoke earlier in the fall, and I asked him if he would be interested in scrimmaging. Since I have a lot of history at Notre Dame and with Kevin, he said he would play.
In defense of the policy, it has been a while since Notre Dame has played a club team. In general, they do not play club or D-3 teams. But they do scrimmage varsity D-3 teams prior to their season. Kevin was under the impression that Oakland was a D-2 varsity program and accepted the scrimmage as a favor to me. Later, when he found out we were a club, he cancelled the scrimmage because of his long-standing policy.
It would have been an interesting match up for us. I was looking forward to seeing how our team would handle the higher level of play.
Instead, the cancellation will give us more time to prepare for St. Vincent (D-2) in two weeks.

That is a shame, that would have been a good experience for you guys and it would have been cool to see how you would match up. Do a lot of schools have that policy or is it just ND?

It is too bad. Playing Penn State, Bucknell and Le Moyne this fall was a great experience for us. Michigan was probably the last club team ND played, and that would have been 10-12 years ago. We used to play them, Ohio State, Michigan State (when they were D1) and a few of the Ohio D3 schools pretty regularly back in the day. Most of those were regular season games.
I'd be surprised if anyone else has a policy like that for scrimmages. More and more NCAA vs. MDIA scrimmages and games have been happening recently. Varsity teams are usually restricted by their 17 play date limitation. Obviously, if they have to choose between a scrimmage with Hopkins (to use an extreme example) or one of us, they'll probably choose Hopkins.
If anyone could have gotten it done with ND, it was Dwayne. He played there.

I depends entirely on the coach. Notre Dame has a pretty tough schedule this year and because of the new NCAA rule (limited days of scrimmages), they are looking to get the most out of any scrimmage they have. We were suppose to scrimmage on 2/6 at 10 am. Later that day, they are going to have another scrimmage against Mercyhurst. Limited days means getting all the scrimmages you can in one day.

So they are still playing that day? In that case, the day wouldn't have counted against them to add you, and they could have played their young guys against you and the older guys against Hurst. Now I am surprised they cancelled it. Who am I to say what they do obviously, but it's surprising since it wouldn't have cost them another play date.

Its too bad the Notre Dame scrimmage is off. It would have been fun for you guys. Use the time to get ready for the Bearcats. They have an excellent team but i hope you guys (and Michigan) can take it too them. Wish i could see those games.

Growing up in Ann Arbor before there was really much lax in Michigan, I used to love going and watching the Spartans beat up on Michigan.
Just kidding JP

Ha. Actually the Michigan club team has an overall winning record against Michigan State's varsity team. As State developed into a legitimate top-20 team at the end of the 80's and early 90's, they started winning regularly. My first year at Michigan we beat them (and Ohio State's D1 team that year, but lost to Notre Dame). That was the last Michigan win. We did have a few really good games though in that span. 91 was the first year they blew us out. I wasn't playing that year, but I came back in 92 for a pretty good shellacking they put on us in Ann Arbor.

To Oakland, St. Vincent's is a classless NAIA program and I'm sorry you are mixed up in a scrimmage with them. My friend was being recruited there and when he decided to not attend school he called the coach himself to inform him of his choice. The coach, who will remain namesless, stated it was the worst decision of his life and promptly hung up the phone. Needless to say, my friend went on to play 2nd line midfield at a D3 NCAA tournament team as a freshman.
Examples go on and on of the shadyness that resides just outside of Pittsburgh. I wish you the best of luck against them.
