Week #8 - 3/30 through 4/5 - Predictions, Scores, News

Postby Jay Wisnieski on Sat Apr 02, 2005 7:22 pm

I forgot to thank Northwestern for coming to play today despite playing down in Lincoln at 8:30 pm last night, or at least that's what the refs said (Nebraska 9, NWC 4). That's a lot of traveling and not a whole lot of time for rest between games. Thanks guys...we'll see you in a week and a half at your field.

Last I heard, ISU was up 3 in the 4th quarter. ISU looked a little more sloppy compared to their play in the Iowa game. This is all word of mouth plus the person was suppose to text me a final score, but they didn't/

Guys,

There are tons of games & scores missing from the GRLC (esp. the Division B). Check:
http://www.uslia.com/scores.php?conf=11
and
http://www.uslia.com/scores.php?conf=2

Please get with Matt Benson if you haven't already done so to report your team's info on USLIA.com:
http://forums.uslia.com/viewtopic.php?t=338

You need to report scores & post game stats throughout the season to keep the system up to date! Thanks!

the ISU-Kansas game was 9-5 i believe....playing two regulation games in one day will make you tired, convenient that neither of hte other schools had to, i think sloppy is the wrong word to describe the second game

Kansas beat Iowa today 6-5 or some one goal score like that. Sounded like Iowa actually "dominated" possession of the ball (someone watching said like 45 mins to 15 mins) but lacked any form of an offense (Iowa, no offense?..........I see things are the same as usual). Kansas played well enough to get the W. Iowa looks like they will be hurting for any chance of playoffs.

I don't know if that is a "shot" at the people in charge of scheduling but I will defend Iowa, Ben Vander Baan (Team President), and Kevin Tidgewell (Coach). Iowa had the Iowa-ISU game scheduled for Friday for the past 5 months or so and they got jerked around by their Rec Services Department. As someone who was in charge of the team for 3 years, I am fully aware with how crappy Iowa treats all club teams so I am fully aware of this plus Ben had been complaining to me for the past month about the possibility of this weekend not even taking place. Ben and Kevin fought hard to get this weekend off. They finally got that but then Ben got excuse after excuse on why the Friday night game couldn't be played (field won't be lined in time and lights won't be working). He was finally told that Friday's game would have to be played on Saturday and was laughed at when he told them they would be fined for moving the game to another day. If you were not complaining, I am sorry I went on a rant but I felt the need to defend Iowa/Ben/Kevin considering two weeks ago, this weekend wasn't suppose to even be played so be happy it did.

I said my thing and I will let it rest now.

nebraska 1 - 3 - 2 - 0 = 6
creighton 0 - 2 - 1 - 2 = 5

to say that we did not play well is an understatement. we were terrible today. nebraska played with more energy and heart. they just wanted it more. in my frustration over injuries and bad bounces i lost my composure and started arguing every bad call and every worse non-call. i even received a "conduct" technical. i really did not represent creighton or the league very well and i apologize.

looks like things are about to get interesting up here in the NW subdivision...

I would have loved to have seen this CU vs. Neb. game. sounds like it was one for the books. My question to you coach gillner, why couldnt you guys have been a little more rusty when you played us on friday afternoon?

good luck to both teams the rest of the season.

Wash U vs Purdue game was not played because the refs had scheduled the game at noon instead of 2pm. No ref's were immediately available after the scheduling confusion so we scrimmaged for a half to get something out of the day.

These things happen... Too bad it did when we had to drive 10 total hours and paid for the transportation...

Sonny,

I read your thread and I can assure you that the communication between Jason Cephus and myself was excellent in the organization of this game. I also appreciate your thread, but let's really examine where the communication breakdown is... prior to this game I checked the following sites to confirm that the game was on at 2PM. Please feel free to double check my work.

1) GRLC.org
2) Purdue's Website
3) CCLA's conference website
4) USLIA.com

All of which had a 2PM game time. As a visiting OOC coach, I should not have to check the CCLA referee website. Not that I know where to do this anyway? As you can probably tell, you know where I am going with this.

So I vent...

It is my responsibility to make sure that I have done my part to make sure everything is organized before we go on a trip like this. I spent a lot of time double checking to make sure that our game was at 2PM. Should I have to check five different websites to make sure everyone has their #$%^ together before my team hits the field, invests hours of our time, and money out of our pockets for an OOC game? Well...evidently I do and herein lies the problem.

The current organization of the information systems in our organization has too many moving pieces for situations like our experience at Purdue to happen. Should Purdue of checked the ref site to confirm game time... Yes. Should the ref's have double checked against the CCLA site... Absolutely. But with all the moving pieces, something slipped through the cracks and will continue to do so.

My point is, as a made months earlier regarding the number of places we have to enter stats, is that there is too much ineffiency and duplication in the systems that operate this league. I realize we don't have to enter in anything on USLIA.com. The only reason my team enters stats on USLIA.com is so my players will get recognition that is due to them at the end of the year and at voting time and because of the national exposure USLIA.com has to the lacrosse community.

For any one team, there currently are three websites where data entry is required (Team site, Conference site, Referee site). Uslia.com is not required, but for most teams they are entering in stats, etc. Now, for OOC games, that requires five separate places to have Accurate information, six if you want to count USLIA.com. (two competing team sites, two conference sites, USLIA.com, and the host conference referee site). Not efficient at all.

The CORE of this league is made up of students and dedicated volunteers (some more organized, busier, enthusiastic than others) who have school, careers, and lives outside of lacrosse. The students pay to play and most volunteers receive little to no finacial retribution for the hard work invested in the league. This fact alone, should be motivation enough to simplify the information system, which as it stands today is very time consuming. As leaders, our obligation for the success of this league is to recognize and respect the simple dynamics of this, which I beleive we all do. There may be a fix for this in the future. Great! But, I feel my responsibility as someone who cares greaty for my team, the growth of lacrosse, and the success of this league is to point out the gaps. I personally feel this is a huge one that came at the expense of my team yesterday.
