Re: MCLA Nike / IL Division I Coach's Poll - 02/19/2013
Looks pretty good to me for a poll in which half of the teams have yet to play a game yet, but what can you do. There are two glaring issues though. Texas got hosed. They crushed FSU who lost by a goal to BC. Based on that, I would expect Texas to be ahead of BC, but the voters clearly missed that one. Also think Oregon State should be in the top 25.
I think that after this weekend, everyone will have played at least one game. So we may get a better idea of where to place some of these teams.

Agree about Texas. Voted them #10 based on the win. They will rise / fall based on the rest of their schedule.

I voted BC above Texas, but not by much. My reasoning was that in BC's game against FSU, it was their first game of the season, and their first time being on a field outside. I'm sure some people get sick of hearing that argument, but it really can be a huge factor. Texas was playing in their fifth game, and has presumably been on a full field for quite a while. I can see why you take issue with it, but I wouldn't call it glaring. Luckily, this will all be settled in less than two weeks when BC goes to Texas.
I agree with you on Oregon State, and I had them in my poll, but I'm not really shocked that they didn't crack the top 25. It's that whole quality loss thing all over again.

I'm not saying FSU should be ahead of BC. I'm just saying Texas should be ahead of both of them until BC does something else. I guess I am hoping that the poll reflects how a team is currently doing, not what they did in the past or what their potential is.
Things are pretty clear cut right now. One team beat another, so they should be ahead of that team. We don't have those triangular things where team A beat team B who beat team C who beat team A. It's pretty straight forward at this point except for those teams that have not played yet.

I also had them in mine. They still get a chance to prove themselves with opportunities coming up this spring. If they are as good as we think, they will show us on the field.

Wow! Four people participating in a discussion. Reminds me of the good old days. Maybe we will have five people next week.

I'd like to chime in more, but I refuse to participate until there is an "Obama's Birth Certificate" thread in the Water Cooler.
On a side note, this was a good ranking. Kudos to the pollsters.

Jac,
That was hysterical! Thank you for the nostalgia and a good laugh.

I will admit my PNCLL bias upfront. But if Oregon and Chapman are both Top-10 teams (and I think they are) then SFU should be way higher than #20. Impressive wins over OSU and at then-ranked Chico, and a one-goal loss to the Ducks in Eugene, one of the tougher venues for visiting MCLA teams to play at. I'm not lobbying for the Clan to be Top-10 yet. But 19 better teams? Really?

If they are worthy Dan they will climb. I think there are like 4-5 teams above them that have not even played yet. SFU has big games vs CSU, CU, MSU and VT upcoming. it will all shake out.
It's so early. I even saw a team on twitter excited about their laxpower ranking- after 3 games!- and i think fishing for a top 25 ranking. It's so early....

Why are we doing polls when half of the teams have not played a game? Or why are teams allowed to start their seasons early to mid March?

Because this is a less than ideal environment to play a lacrosse game in:
(George Washington v. Pittsburgh, played at Washington & Jefferson University on 2/17/13)
