There isn't much to argue here since the season has not really started, but based on one game between UCSB and Stanford, I would expect Stanford to be ahead of them. I thought we were not going to base any of this on the preseason poll. Looks like that is not going to happen.

I am a voter and I will bite. I couldn't agree more. Polls are supposed to reflect this year, not last.
UCSB - I believed at the beginning of the year (and still do) that this team would be a top 10 team. To be honest, I thought they might be top 5, so I voted them #3 in the country given what they returned. After the Stanford loss, I dropped them 9 spots to #12. They have a lot of other big games this year and I am certain they will bounce back, but currently, they had to drop to matchup with the loss.
Stanford - I was uncertain what to make of this team. Coach Virk and Coach Bala both are very good and they have Jack Farr along with some other really good players. It was hard to say how good the team would be, so I voted them #18, guessing they would be in the mix for Nationals this year. After their win, I voted them #7 as a result.
Given the lack of other "big games" that have happened, it seems Stanford should be in the Top 10 and UCSB in the Top 15, unless I am the only voter who thinks they were a top 5 team. Find that hard to believe since they opened week 1 at #5. Hopefully voters are taking the time to vote based off current results as opposed to last year. It may see more volatility in the poll as teams win and lose, but it will all sort out over time. Just my opinion.
Side note, who voted for Texas Tech? They are 0-3, http://mcla.us/teams/texas_tech/2013/schedule.html

Well, it seems like we are the only ones on these boards. Maybe I could create another profile and argue with myself. UCSB lost a lot of talent to graduation and other issues. So they have freshmen starting at attack and defense. So I think it will be one of those years where they get better as the season progresses. Luckily they have a good coach.
Stanford looks better than I have ever remembered. They have a freshman middie named Peter Doyle who came from St Ignatius. I believe he was supposed to go to Princeton, but turned it down because of roots in the bay area. He had 5 goals against UCSB and looked very legitimate. Farr is good, but this guy is better.

Seems that way, but I am sure more guys will start weighing in once you start tweeting links to it
Stanford has some talent and Doyle is a baller, but they have a lot of pieces around him that make them dangerous. Not a one trick pony I don't think. Take away Doyle, they will beat you in other areas.

Yes. Both of his sons went there, but I think his youngest graduated four years ago. So he is a little far from the league now.

Each conference director was asked to nominate 3 people from their conference in each divsion to vote on the respective polls.
