Eligibility Question

Does a graduating senior have to take 12 units in order to be eligible? Or does he only need to take what he needs in order to graduate, be it 8 or 9 units?

Seniors only need to take as many credits as they need to graduate, but one of those classes must be a course required for graduation.

So, let's say you have 124 credits required for graduation, and entering spring semester you have completed 120; you can't just take a 4 credit basket weaving class (unless you're a rec major--haha), you have to take 4 credits of some sort of capstone or thesis or distribution or the like.

Not that this applies to anyone i know, but as long as the topic is being discussed...
What is considered a class that is required for graduation?

Example: a senior has completed all of their coursework in thier major, but has the chance to do field work, like a for-credit internship, or a field study, to fill out their total credit requirement for graduation?

and required courses outside of your major....like a biochemist still needs to take public speaking to graduate, does that count? not a capstone, but still a requirement......

Classes required for graduation fulfill that requirement, the intent is that you do not complete all of your courses required for graduation in the fall and hang around to take a one class that was not required to fulfill your graduation requirements in the spring to be eligible for one more year of lacrosse.

ok...thanks.

so if you delay graduation for a semester, even for field work or an internship that would look great on your resume....you can't play? but if you take basket weaving because you needed one more credit hour to graduate, you can?

not trying to dish on the rules....sorry if it seems that way, i know that they are there for a reason and this is a comparison of two absolutely unlikely extremes. I've heard of lots of eligibility issues, and i just wish i understood the rules a lil bit better.

Seriously, though, if you needed 120 credits to graduate and were at 119 after fall, then took a 1-credit PE in the spring, would that be "required for graduation"?

I think what they are trying to say is that the class can't just be a random elective. There has to be one class that if you don't take it that spring then you won't be able to graduate. Correct?
