Files is way down on the list of players in the LSA, here are some players that have way better skills than this kid:
From Texas: Zissman, Chambliss, and Cox
From Tech: the keeper, #1
From TAMU: Turnbow, Tabb, Deeke
and Baylor has Neil

All these guys are way better than Files, plus this doesn't include any specialty players or long poles who are definately deserving of this type of award. When you choose an MVP he should be the one who teams change their game plan for of the player who is the reason why his team wins the game - not a person who can average 4or 5 goals with only a few assists.

But here's an idea, lets stop tlaking about files and start tlaking about somebody who actually deserves MVP, or how the LSA playoff weekend will unfold

Son there is a big difference between Gary Gait, and your friend. I mean a big difference. Can I quote Peter Griffin I mean "Come on, come ooooonnnn." Your teams has better middies, that are much more complete players that do all the littles things. Plus as I said before a great keep, and a really solid long pole middie, I think number 9, but I don't know he's a big guy. Oh and that Peter Griffin quote goes for Files as well. An MVP finds a way to win and make his teams better. Key word is win. If Files was the MVP then he would have found a way to pull out that close one against A&M. If you want a frame of reference to what an MVP player swagger should, I know I could be talking myself into a corner by bringing oldschool NBA into this but Jordan was not MVP just because he scored a lot of points. It was because he would often lead his team in rebounding, was the best defender, and he recognized double teams and dished. Thats what I mean about being a complete player. There is a lot more to this game than being a big goal scorer. If you crank up 30 shots a game and four go in, that is not a complete player. Heck I even remember Dunn doing a lot of the little things, more so than score a lot of goals, which he did.

Oh and for Ryan Davis's sake I'm not affiliated with the LSA. I haven't played in quite some time, but I happen to live in the Lone Star State for work, and I like to watch a little lax once and a while, oh yeah and long walks on the beach 8)

Well, Sir. (Since you called me son). I never said he was as good as Gary Gait, so pull your head out. I was simply pointing out that a player with good size can still be a dominant force on the field without the utilization of both hands. Shouldn't you be working? I seriously doubt your boss would like the fact that you are arguing with college kids on a message board while at work.

I just want to point out that the A&M v. UNT game was not close. A&M emptied the bench after the first quarter (8-1) or (7-0). I guess Tscaz has gone soft in his old age. Ha-Ha.

To Ryan Davis...I used to have a name that said who i was and what team i played for but since this board crashes every 6 weeks i got sick of it so heres where i am now. Plus if you have read anything else that i have posted you can figure it out pretty easy. Besides when did this become some defacto public forum where anything posted here means anything, besides scores and so forth.

UziSuicide, sir, get back to work and leave us kids alone.

I don't know, I can think of about 5-10 other attackmen in the LSA that would prolly put up better #'s if they were facing 2nd string D-men for 3 quarters against top teams, or if they were left in to score 10 goals against the teams that weren't so good. I guess I fail to see how a player from a team who perpetually misses the playoffs can be considered.

MVP

Postby Laika on Fri Apr 01, 2005 8:16 pm

At this point in the season, the MVP would definitely come from either the two players mentioned at Tech, Shaw and Kurzweil. They have both stepped up with big performances against the top teams in the LSA. I would find it really hard to argue for any other player.

I remember that in the past the awards were given before the playoffs so that they can have an all-star game, so I'm not sure if the playoff performances will be considered. Maybe they changed it this year?

Texas State- 21, 14, the goalie, and that attackmen of theirs that is pushing social security benefits.
A&M- Turnbow played well for his two quarters (since it was noted earlier that they cleared their bench after the first quarter or two). He was also hurt during this game. 14 and 2 also played very well.
Texas- Garrett (goalie), #50 (the long pole), Zissman
Other than Files, who by his stats would be our best bet as league MVP, #5 Singleton, is a Face Off middie who wins most of his face offs (though we havent played Baylor, whose face off middie has seemed to set the bar, so take this for what its worth.) he also has 18 goals on the season, and played goalie for us against UT and played very well, despite the score (unless someone from UT has something other to say).
Im sure Baylor, Tech, and SMU all have notable players, but i cannot comment as we havent played them.
I realize that these are just the teams that beat us, and this is by no means any disrespect to the rest of the LSA teams or players

Files

Postby JStoops on Sat Apr 02, 2005 5:36 pm

How come everyone is so defensive when Files is mentioned for MVP consideration. There is still two weeks or so of lacrosse to play before the playoffs. And as for UNT being a bad team this year, everyone should remember that since UNT beat Baylor 18-9 today, if they win out against SMU and Tech they will be the 1st seed in the North division. You may think that it is a reach for them to do this, but we beat Tech last year in Lubbock. Just something to think about.

I gotta agree with Laika here. Bias aside, I haven't seen any players in the LSA that have had such a dramatic effect on gameplay as I have seen with Shaw and Kurzweil. It may be difficult for some, but you have to look beyond stats alone to decide on an MVP (reference to Files).

In high school I was leading scorer for three years and was BY NO MEANS the most effective player on the field; anyone can put the ball in 36 square feet of net. Goals, saves, shots, assists play a huge role in determining an MVP, but the means by which a player CARRIES AND CONTROLS his team should also be a very important, if not the most important factor in a game.

*No discredit to Files, he's an excellent player.

Last year's game was a joke. UNT beat TECH in mudball... not lacrosse. :D

Regardless, this year's game should be a great one.

MudBall Games...."Dont 2 Teams Play in the MUD"

Postby PinkSnappa21 on Sat Apr 02, 2005 11:04 pm

I didnt play last yr. and this my 1st yr. in the LSA but 2 teams play in the MUD so step up Tech..You lost.....From what i hear there wasnt any mud at all just cold and windy. As for A&M this yr. ya that was a mud ball game. But as my 2 month career in goal was getting started i seemed to notice A&M putting back in there players sometime around the 3rd quarter...Why can't the new recruits score on a 2 month old goalie? As for the MVP im not a coach so i have no say...so i wont waste the rest of my time on that subject. So why youll waste the rest of your time on that subject i will be training for Tech.. 3.5 months in the goal now so I have alot of work to do. Only let 9 in against Baylor
