A friend was on the New England Patriots team that got slaughter by the Bears in Superbowl whatever. He received a big old ring just for making it to the Superbowl. He said it was recognition for making it to the championship game. Winning it all is of course the greatest accomplishment but making it to that game is a feat worth celebrating and honoring.
My friend said as he looked back on the game, he wished they would have won, (and wished they hadnt got humilitated) but it was an honor to even be in the game. The ring was a great reminder of that.
So to me raising or finding a few extra bucks for a trophy for their school and some memento of their participation in THE game is worth it for the young men who play their guts out to make it to the big show.
I guess if the pro teams recgonize the importance of making it to the championship game, why cant we?
Just another perspective...

Problem with this argument is, they dont hand out trophies to the super bowl losers, but they do to the winners. Same as the MCLA. Although, I do think giving the MCLA champs all rings to the winners is a mighty fine idea...

In all seriousness, while I do respect the idea of giving the second place school a trophy, there are other ways to go about it. If your school wants to put something in the case, have a team picture and put MCLA DII Runner-up, '08 under it. But I dont think you need the MCLA to give you a trophy to validate your accomplishment. And a lot of teams wouldnt care for one, either cause they are too bitter they didnt win it all, or cause they wouldnt know what to do with it. I know Michigan St could care less, and it would have just ended up in the coaches basement, or office if we're lucky.

The NFL hands out the Lombardi Trophy to the winning SB team.

All of the players on playoff squads get bonus checks from the NFL based on how far they advance in the playoffs. This bonus money comes from the playoff ticket revenue, as I understand it.

The winning Super Bowl team (not the NFL) gives out Super Bowl ("World") Champion rings to players, coaches, and other valued members of the organization.

The losing Super Bowl team (not the NFL) typically does a conference championship ring as well for players, coaches, etc.

This is a true statement.
