Mid-Season RMLC thoughts.

Thats why I think Boise and Wyoming should be moved up into Div A wiether or not they can "Hang"...I mean there are other conferences with much weaker teams in Div A then Boise and Wyoming...im pretty sure that Boise could hand it to Utah State right now, a few of the Div B teams could. It really just puts our entire Div B in a bad spot because it could kill our AQ.

well, just so you know it wasnt boise's choice to go down to Div B and I think that you should be worrying about winning games rather than putting down other teams. You all talk about how hard your SOS is...why dont you do something about it and string some wins together? I just think we should all play and not worry about who is in your conference, especially those who call THEMSELVES standout players....

Competition

Postby squirts62 on Fri Apr 01, 2005 8:01 am

In no way do I mean for the following to sound offensive or derogatory in any way shape or form; I've just been reading through the RMLC forum for a couple months now, and I want to give you guys something to chew on...

The focus in this forum consistently seems to be on the "who's who" subjects. Don't get me wrong, it is important to compliment good players, but personally I feel that making repeated efforts to determine the best players is pointless. Anyone who competes knows there are "on" games and "off" games for all players. This forum seems to consistantly wrap itself around the abilities of an individual, when what really matters is the ability of a team. From my perspective, really determining the best players can only be done in the post season. In my mind, the pivotal element that separates a good player from a great player lies in their ability to handle high pressure situations; there is no better test for this charachteristic than the "win or go home" atmosphere of the post season. Additionally, it is also important to remember that stats don't tell the whole story. I feel that the greatest players are the ones that provide opportunities for their teammates to shine. These are the players that produce greatness in a team as opposed to an individual, and as a result, these are the players that will have an opportunity to compete for the national title. Finally, I want to say one more thing in regards to the ENTIRE USLIA... I don't know about the rest of you, but I play this game because I love it. I could care less if I'm playing on Boise's "smurf turf," or here at home trudging through our mud pits we call fields. I don't care if the referees are consistantly making bad calls. These are elements out of my control when I'm on, or off the field. I play this game because I love to compete. It is the opportunity to be a part of the amazing shots, the huge hits, the defensive stands, the come from behind victories, the upsets, the nail-biters, and ensuring that your team accompanies all of these elements with good sportsmanship. Again, in no way do I intend this to be a shot at anything anyone has had to say on this forum, and perhaps I should keep my opinions within the PNCLL forum only. I just want anyone who reads this to know I'm not writing this from the perspective of being your competitor, it comes from my position as a fellow athlete and the passion we all share for this sport. I suppose in one sentence.... Don't overlook the simple blessings provided by the opportunity to compete. See you on the field!

Yes, that

I am quite aware that it wasnt Boise's spot...I was at the league meetings, I saw how pissed Boise was, I saw why it happend, and I am pretty sure no one has listed a player from Mines as a stand out player, so...yea

Chad-
I agree with you and am often times disappointed with the way these boards seem to go, but our conference is a little different than yours. I wish we were in a situation where any one of 5 teams could win the championship and make it to nationals, then we would have a lot more to talk about. The way it is though, we have some people who are passionate about the game (Minesgoallie45 is one example), but don’t have a lot to talk about when it comes to the high hopes for their teams. We have teams that are celebrating their first ever victory (congrats to CSU-Pueblo) and others hoping to get a win this year. Bottom line is that everyone likes to be talked about, and when your team isn’t in any light of attention, you start looking for anything, such as personal recognition, that will make you feel important. There are some big games this week that we could be talking about, but again, in the RMLC discussion forum, we are talking about pointless stuff.

Just to clarify regarding the RMLC's AQ for Blaine. It is up to the individual conferences to determine how they choose their Division B champion who would earn their AQ and represent them in Blaine. The fact that Boise is really an A team and playing in the B playoffs has been addressed. If they run the tournament and win they would not be named the RMLC Division B champion, it would be the true B team in the finals who lost. They would earn the AQ and be named the RMLC B Champ.

I think next year this will all be reworked in the fall so that it is not an issue.

I would sure hope so because the situation that exists isn't fair to anyone involved. The decision that was made at the fall meeting was incredibly biased towards the bigger programs in the RMLC. I'm sure the administrators and coaches of our league will get their wits about them and fix this problem so that the RMLC goes by the national guidelines.
