Some feel that that 1989-1990 Syracuse team may have been one of the best ever to play college lacrosse and that is why the 1990 Championship game is considered by Syracuse fans as legit and thus the 10 titles....

Syracuse 21
Loyola 9

After the 1990 championship, the NCAA Committee on Infractions determined that Paul Gait had played in the 1990 championship while ineligible. Under NCAA rules, Syracuse and Paul Gait’s records for that championship were vacated. The NCAA does not recognize Syracuse and Coach Roy Simmons Jr.’s 3-0 record, and Paul Gait’s 7 goals, 7 assists and his participation in that championship.

It is because the Gaits were involved and the entire lacrosse community kowtows to the Gaits. ESPN was guilty of this during their telecast.

Count me among the kowtowers.

BTW, growing up with a dairy herd, I can testify how hard it can be to tow a cow, but I don't know bubkus about towing a kow.

I believe because the coach's wife co-signed on a car loan for him.

I wasn't meaning to take away from the Gaits but rules is rules and ESPN should have at least explained the situation rather than ignoring it.

The coach's wife co-signed for Gait's wife.

Thanks for the correction. Hardly a USC-class violation...

The best part is that the two husbands were unaware of the transaction until it was done. One wife asking a favor of the other wife in a time of need. That is the version I was told by two guys that were on the team back then. It is not like they were given a house on the beach and a BMW.

I don't know how other marriages work, but I can't imagine either my wife or myself arranging to buy a car without discussing the financing with the other one first, nor can I imagine one of us cosigning a loan without running it by the other one first.

This is quite newsworthy, so what do you think about the official news of the Big East Lacrosse which was announced today. Will that have a ripple effect on the other conferences? Is this good or bad?

As much as I'd like to see it, the ripple effect probably won't happen in the near future (10+ years), but establishing a big name conference like that is great.

At least until the game grows too much & we get a BCS system in place.

Linked on the main CL page...

I think this is fantastic news. the more and more NCAA & MCLA lacrosse can do to align themselves with traditional (well-supported) sports, conferences, & rivalries - should help lacrosse position themselves even better as the sport continues to attract outsiders.
