The bottom line is that most schools won't let you say that your club lacrosse team is for men only.... If a girl wants to play for us, she'll play... her playing time will depend on her ability and commitment, just like everyone else..

I think the only problem I have seen with women in men's lacrosse is the difference in how the game is played. I've seen women who can play both equally well. As far as physical goes, it is really not an issue. I've seen enough noodle armed lacrosse players in my life that did just fine.

When i played in highschool we played a new team that had a girl on it. as with all new teams they were bad but the girl on their team was nasty, i repeatnasty. I play defense and she was by far the most slippery attackman i had ever covered (up to that point) and she was the only person on their team to score (like 3 goals). second in response to wrestling-i was in a tournament and there was this girl wrestled something like 119 lbs. she dominated the tournament and took first. she was the top ranked female freestyle wrestler in the nation. In order for a girl to compete with guys she has to be smart and use our predjudice against us.

If there is a women's program availible at the school, then the women should play Women's Lacrosse. End of story.
What would US Lacrosse think of a school, such as Sam Houston State, that has a women's lacrosse club, but no men's club, and that women's team had male players?!?!?!?

Yes, if there is a women's program available then there is no reason why a girl should be playing or wanting to play with the guys. But if there is no other option then it should be ok. And there is no difference if a guy is playing on a girls team than a girl playing on a guys team. If they really love whichever sport it may be, let them play.

Why do girls play on guys teams if there is a league for girls? Couldn't we argue that if a guy wants, he can play on a girls team? I just think its unfair if girls have their own lacrosse league but they can still choose between that and playing with guys.

Are there a lot of schools with both men's and women's leagues?? Just wondering because I don't have the faintest idea how many there are.

Many schools have to have as many Women's sports as Men's sports. Therefore when a Men's Lacrosse team is started a Women's team is often also created like a way to balance out the sports. I know schools that this has happened at, not sure how many though.

Cousin17, I am not sure if you have your facts mixed up. But, I am sure that there is not a requirement that you must have an equal number of Club teams for both men and women, UNLESS you are talking about Title IX. In that case you must an equal number of men and womens sports in the Varsity program. Seeing as we are all NOT varsity I don't believe their is a quota on the number of teams.
I say let the girls play, at my high school we had a girl who played on our JV team and even in a few varsity games. I wish I had picture of the other team when she scored not one, but two goals against a varsity oppponent. But we took her out, after a d-man on the other team cross-checked her in the back. Which should be a two-minute penalty, when committed on a girl.

Im sure that there are a few girls out there that would rather play on Mens teams even if there are a womans team avalaible just because the game is so much different. I know that there are girls out there that just prefer mens. I think if they want to play, then let them, because they really are just different games.

Quick question: what could a guy do if there were a women's varsity program at his school, but no men's lacrosse team? Would it be tolerated for the guy to join the team and play? I don't think so. The fact is, there is a double standard that really needs to be addressed. Title IX has had its time in the sun, and like sports everywhere, it needs to evolve with the times. Otherwise, I am starting for my women's team next spring (jk).
