MVP
What the...
Romes why did you have to bring Bannister into this. What has he done for this team the past two years? Shinanigans on you Romes. No more post for you unless you can back that weak suggestion.

Chris Files for UNT has 51 goals with 3 games to play. He is averaging 4.64 goals a game with 18 assists for the season. This is impressive considering he is playing with 2 freshmen at attack and a very young team in general. He is someone everyone in the league needs to watch for as an MVP and a 1st team LSA candidate.

How many teams in the LSA are in the top 25? Zero. What does it matter if no one in the LSA can beat a top 25 team? Chris can put up numbers aganist any team.

I would have to say that before everyone starts to decide who the MVP is, you might want to define what characteristics qualify someone to be MVP.
Is it the guy that has the most stats? Is it the guy that makes your team better or if he was on another team would make just a big an impact? Is it the guy that if he didn't play you would absolutely loose the game? Maybe it is all of those?
In my opinion MVP is not about stats, it's a little bit of everything above and most importantly a guy that has the ability to single handedly change the outcome of a game. If the whole team is struggling, he could carry the team to victory.

Agreed, LaxC21. I don't think that averaging six goals a game in blowout games defines an offensive league MVP. I have been taught that "stats conceal as much as they reveal."

I agree with this approach. The whole arguement of 'who have you played' is a terrible one. If that was the case then you are handing out the MVP to player who played the most games against ranked teams. That is no measure of a MVP.
I think when people sit down to consider the league MVP, I think a question should be asked, "When that player is on the field, does the other team change their game plan to because of them?"

Chris Files
Here are Chris Files' stats against the potential playoff teams from LSA over the past two seasons.
2005
UT - 3 g, 0 a
A&M - 2, 1
TSU - 3, 2
Tulane - 4,1
Southwest Missouri State - 6,0
2004
UT - 2,2
SMU - 3,2
A&M - 2,1
TSU - 4,1
Tech - 5,0
He has pretty high points per game stats against the best LSA teams. The stats seem to reveal that Chris has incredible consistency against the best teams in the league.

There is a difference between LSA playoff potential and Nationals potential. It would be better to have an MVP that put up numbers against top 25 teams. There are LSA teams that do play harder schedules than North Texas and that play non-conference games against top 25 teams. This is why I would support an MVP from Texas, Texas Tech, or Texas A&M.

I'm not making this argument to say that Chris is not worthy of MVP status...but if you are going to compare stats to say how good a player is, then maybe you should compare his stats against past MVP winners.
I believe you will see that Chris' stats don't measure up to past winners who had big performances consistently in the LSA games and against OOC opponents.
Just another reason the argument for MVP should not be measured by stats alone.

Normally I would use my old "the leading scorer from UNT is like Peyton Manning" argument and say to look for the league's Tom Brady to hand out the MVP, but there really hasnt been anyone to fit that bill. Last year, those who argued against Davis from UNT had Dunn to replace him with. The same argument is here against Files, but there is no one to replace him with... So why not give it to the guy. Seems like it would make a whole lot of gentlemen in Denton sleep better at night.
