The question you pose is quite ironic given your handle. I assume you mean has any other team besides ASU been shut out?

Rumor today was Farinelli got into it with his coaches during Noma game and left. Did not show up today. Every offensive player for Chapman is a threat they play smart and finish congrats to Chapman.

In one, brief sentence, the WCLL website described yesterday's Championship game (the next sentence in the write up gave the tally of Chapman's top scorers):

"Chapman's balanced scoring proved too much for ASU who were missing a few key players."

What kind of "unbiased" and official news feed from the league itself qualifies Chapman's win with, "ASU, who were missing a few key players." Was Chapman not missing a significant starter that is after all, a 2nd team all WCLL player? Both those players would have had an impact in the game, and there is no denying that, but for the league to make a statement like that, I am incredibly confused. There is no question that both teams at this point had players playing with ongoing injuries (I can certainly confirm that on our end, and I am sure ASU can too). Should we add those up too to decide the legitimacy of the outcome? Yesterday's game was hard fought by both sides, and I can imagine there is a better way to define ASU's effort than talk about their missing players.

After defeating every team in the WCLL currently ranked in the top 20, what else can we do in the WCLL at this point to prove that maybe we are a team that actually can have quality wins that are not compounded with excuses or rationalizations from the other side? If this was the first time this has happened this year, I would not be quite as annoyed, but it is not. These message boards are usually full of similar excuses that make a close, "quality loss" to another team, out to be a pseudo win for the losing team, (as are the polls at times). Going forward, can we not applaud the effort of every team in each game, of which there are always instances of playing through adversity and injuries, but can we also "call a spade a spade"and say that a win is a win.

Where as I cannot ask coaches, players, fans and alumni to stop defending their teams on the forums, (we all do it to certain extents), I expect more from the governing body of the league.

Maybe because everybody knows about ASU's injured player, whereas Chapman is trying to hide the fact that their best player was not playing for "undisclosed" reasons. Perhaps the individual who wrote the short blurb should mention this? Would that be better?

Don't know the history of this, but Tyler is kinda a big deal. WCLL Offensive Player of the Year last year, and two time FIRST team all-WCLL...

first round and quarter final in MCLA tournament.

if both did, then both will meet each other again

FYI, the missing Chapman Player was FIRST team all-WCLL his freshman and sophomore years, and 2nd team this year (Tyler was honorable mention his freshman year). Both are great players, but again, this is not what I am trying to get across. Their absence DOES NOT sum up the game.

I will stop commenting now, (already said too much), because my point is not getting across. Did ASU players, coaches, fans, etc appreciate how much UCSB fans talked about their missing players in their latest loss to ASU, as to justify it as one of the "good" losses discussed so much here? I doubt it. However, that was the sentiment expressed on the message boards, and not legitimized by the OFFICIAL WCLL SITE as a valid reason for a loss. There was much more to say about how ASU played in the Championship than to only mention their missing all-star. That, I hope, is biggest point I am trying to make.

Chapman ASU WCLL Summary

Postby SoCalLaxDoctor on Tue May 06, 2008 1:26 am

Having seen both ASU and Chapman play multiple times this year, I am shocked that the WCLL Official web site would underplay the way their CHAMPIONSHIP game was played. For the first half it was Chapman out early as has been their M.O. this year. Then ASU made a valiant come back effort to make it a two goal game at half time. ASU came storming out after the half scoring a man up goal to make the score 7-6 and then shortly thereafter tieing the game at 7. After that it was all Chapman. Chapmans defense and ride caused multiple turnovers in the third and fourth quarter, and the depth of the Chapman team then finished the story. Chapman ran off 9 unanswered goals in the second half to seal the victory. Chapman had 10 players with points in this game per the WCLL web site. ASU is not reporting their stats, so I cannot comment on their scoring distribution. I can tell you that LaFlam is no slouch replacement for Tyler Westphal. What I saw was a Chapman team that was simply too deep and too powerful for ASU,( even with one key player for each team out of the contest.) Now that's what the web site should have communicated. By the way, what other "key players" was ASU missing?

GREAT win for a young Chapman squad that reports only one senior on their roster.

If I were Coach Malone, I would be equally appalled by the article, as it suggests that their team is all about one player. ASU was among the leading scoring teams in the country this year. How about congratulations to the Sun Devils for a great effort, and hope they get another chance to play Chapman in the MCLA semi finals with both teams at full stength.

Coach Sheinin is correct..........That's the point!
Always on the cutting edge!

Congrats to Chapman...this year's squad is the best MCLA team I have seen since the 2002 season..I said that at the beginning of the year and I will say it again!
Another note: Chapman's championship makes them the first and only team to win both a DI and DII championship (DII champs in 1992, 2001).

Maybe he was on the other sideline secretly video-taping ASU's signals...
