'08 PNCLL Final Fours in Missoula

Postby Dan Wishengrad on Wed Apr 30, 2008 10:16 am

I'll buy a pitcher to share with Marilyn and her favorite son. The other Hoskins spawn -- that black sheep of the family who picked my team to lose by eight goals above -- can buy his own! :P

I see the results a bit differently than Nathan. I'm not going to attempt to pick a score for each game but here goes:

Western Oregon over Whitman (but by a much closer score than Nathan predicts)
Western Washington over UPS (by a possibly slightly wider margin than Nathan predicts--sorry Kyle).
Western to win the DII title (Ok, that was bad but I couldn't resist. Western Washington over Western Oregon in a tough tough game).

SFU over UW
Oregon digs deep to just nip Montana.
SFU over UO in what's shaping up to be the newest rivalry game in the PNW.

These are predictions, guys, not what I want to see. I remain staunchly neutral about the outcomes but I do expect to see some entertaining lacrosse this weekend.

That might be one of the oldest rivalries in the PNCLL... SFU used to stomp Oregon, then UO stomped SFU, now its back to SFU stomping Oregon. It's good for the league, too bad UO couldn't pull off a win over BYU. I wouldn't count out those Ducks just yet though, they're still a great team and whoever plays them this weekend will face a tough game.

lots of good games this weekend, no cupcakes. I don't have any predictions, but I'm hoping to see all the games end around the 3 goal or less margin.

I'd definitely like to encourage all the teams to stick around during the day to watch the rest of the PNCLL play... there will be space open on Saturday for teams to set up tents (if you bring them) to have a "base camp" of sorts where you can meet, coordinate plans, etc. We will have volunteers that can help you with food, directions, activities, or whatever, so I'd recommend setting up in this fashion if you are able to. Bring a team flag or banner or whatever if you've got them.

the weather has been off and on... it was beautiful here this past weekend, and a bit overcast for the last two days. Forecasts have a chance of rain for the weekend, so we will probably see some. My guess would be that it won't stick around for much of the day, but who knows.

the grass in the soccer stadium is in great shape since the girl's are not in season. Our field is in pretty good shape actually (same condition as Riverbowl) so there shouldn't be issues there... but if the weather gets nasty Saturday the creases will take a beating... just to warn you. All players will need cleats for Saturday and whatever you like for field turf for Sunday.

It's Montana... bring your shorts and sunglasses, but bring a warm jacket and your rain gear too.

Are you taking a shot at the condition of my lawn? Did Wes use water or bleach?

It's wheat straw. Hay would be more of an alfalfa/clover blend....

I bet Marilyn could go for a glass of red wine... Actually, after all the organizational and year end stuff this week, she could probably go for a bottle :D

And Dan, I'm a little bit anti-Husky this year after the way my Broncos were shellacked earlier in the season!

Kevin or Will. . .

With the games Saturday being played adjacent to one another. . .and having never seen your soccer stadium. . .is there a location inside the stadium where you can go to the top of the stands and watch games on both fields? Just curious.

The stagger to the games is nice and I hope it works out so those of us stuck up in the booth can still catch some D2 action on Saturday.

Jason-
you and Ryan and the couple of guys filming will have the best vantage point from the top of the bleachers in the women's facility, but all that separates the games is a fence, so people will be surrounded by the action. It's going to make for an exciting atmosphere at South Campus. If you need a spell to go check out some D2 action up close I'm sure that can be arranged.

See you all soon in Missoula (in person or on GrizLax.com)... gonna be a fun weekend of lacrosse.

Hey, is Whitman's game at 11am or noon? Wish's note says different than Kevin's.

The answer to your question is "Yes", Steno. :?

Montana is in the Mountain Time zone -- one hour later than Oregon, Washington and BC. So your game is at 11am, Walla Walla time, which translates to Noon in Missoula.

Seriously, it's a Nooner -- we pushed the semis back...
