Out of curiosity/laziness: What is St. Benedict's mascot? It's been about 10 years since I've lived in the St. Cloud/Collegeville area.

Even though they are called "Bennies" by everyone in the modern world, the athletic department believed there were negative connotations behind that, so in the mid 80s they came up with the awesome name of the "Blazers".

My personal favorite is the Blooming Prairie "Awesome Blossoms"

The "Fighting Squirrels" used to be Bradford College in MA. The institution closed in 2000. My son and his friends in high school all had "Fighting Squirrels" hats.

My high school in Upstate NY had a unique, but not negative nickname from a glacial formation. During the Ice Age, Lake Ontario was much larger and the old shoreline still exists, a ridge running from Niagara Falls to Oswego. Yes, they built a road on the ridge (Ridge Road). The village of Webster was on Ridge Road, hence the nickname Ridgemen. Alas, they now have 2 high schools, neither using the name. Only alumni like myself to claim the distinction.

SJU has a crazy tradition involving the rat pack. Back in the day, the entire student section was referred to as the rat pack. More recently, it's only a few who are hand selected. Most of my relatives are johnnie/bennie alum. I attended a football game on a nice Saturday afternoon. All of a sudden five idiots emerge from the woods and come pouring into the football bowl on whatever they found in the parking lot. One guy rode a bike, another was on a piece of cardboard. The best part the one who was my sister's boyfriend and he was wearing black spandex head to toe, but had on a red bra and underwear over the spandex.

Hard to tell if that is a goatee or a neatly trimmed beaver.
And I spit my coffee when I read the Eaten Beavers name!
