GRLC Action (4/23-4/29) Discuss Games/Report Scores

I was waiting for comments to come up about some of the big scores we put up this weekend. Dordt tried to handle these games as well as we could, we had our starters in for at least the first quarter in each game and then rotated mostly freshmen through at the different positions. Starters still made their way onto the field but that was mostly because it was really cold and we wanted to get warm by running around. We got our new guys a ton of playtime and that was important to us especially going into playoffs this next weekend.
I do not mean to take anything away from the teams we played through my comments or the fact that we were throwing mostly 3rd and 4th line guys into the game, I hope they do not take it that way. Dordt tries to maintain good sportsmanship at all times, but blowout scores like that do make us look like jerks I guess.

game was hard fought both ways. ISU locks a playoff spot knocking us out. Congrats to them on earning that.
On a side note, ISU did not do a very good job providing on field trainers. Had a couple incidents where someone on the field was hurt and there were no trainers to be found. In fact in the 4th quarter, some of our parents had to bring us a bag of ice. Hope to see a bit more improvement on that.
But a real congrats to them on the win, I know how good those are to win... they just suck to lose

just curious to see what was the score from the MO S&T and Metro State?
Metro 12
Missouri S&T 2
Metro State's goalie is ridiculous.

I now believe the flaw of 1-AA has been shown, seeing how KSU lost to KU (1-A) by 8 goals and Ole Miss lost to MO State by 9 goals. Neither of these teams who won on the field are in the playoffs. It could be any team you plug in here but my feeling is the better team on the field should be the team in the playoffs. (I was trying to find more examples but the only other one that came up was KSU losing to Lindenwood by 20 so that's not a very good example, sorry). Yes, I will agree that the 1-AA teams did become more competitive but when they played A teams the scores were still slightly lopsided and are now taking playoff seeds from teams who beat them fairly handily.
With that said, good luck to all the teams who are fighting for the championship! I hope you provide me some quality entertainment

I second that, MO S&T had a good number of chances, including some right on top of the crease and he stood the test repeatedly. On a side note, I hope those boys enjoyed their 14 hours in a couple vans just for the 1 game! Wow!

Andrew, I do not believe you are complaining. FWIW though, The 1-AA teams are not taking a playoff spot away from 1-A teams. The 1-A tournament was expanded to add the two seeds that 1-AA has. Last year, only four teams from 1-A made playoffs. The case is the same this year. I will also make the old reminder (and again I do not think you are complaining), that we leave the Fall Meeting with everyone knowing what it takes to make the tournament and everyone seems to be in agreement. Now is not the time to decide you do not like the playoff structure and rules because it did not work out how your team would like. (I do not think you are complaining, I think you are making a constructive observation of what might be a flawed system).

Weekend results for Missouri S&T:
Saturday, in Rolla
Missouri S&T 1-0-1-0 = 2
Metro State 4-2-4-2 = 12
Did try to get them a second opponent, but due to rescheduling, none available. I concur with the statements regarding the Metro goalie, excellent game. We did have a BBQ for them after the game.
Sunday, in Columbia
Missouri University of Science and Technology 2-0-2-1 = 5
University of Missouri 4-5-3-3 = 15
Thanks to Mizzou for hosting, it has been a long time.
Missouri S&T finishes the season at 5-6, most victories ever in a season.
The last few weeks have definitely been up and down with the Harding's eligibility question.
First, let me state I did not participate in the GRLC Executive Committee vote on this issue, due to an obvious conflict of interest.
I would have been pleased to take our team to the playoffs as a reward to the seniors for their hard work over the years to make us a competitive team. Nothing would have made me happier than to be coaching in the playoffs with my son sharing the duties in the coaching box.
However, as I told my team this week, we did not earn the right to be there with our play on the field. The situation must have been a nightmare for Mark Bates and his team. Upon learning of the infraction, they immediately self-reported it to the commissioner with the honesty and integrity expected at an institution such as Harding. This was not "self-reporting" done after a mandatory eligibility report. Their actions in this incident honor the game. No thought what so ever of moving towards NASCAR's "If you ain't cheating, you ain't competing" mentality.
I am sure Harding and SLU will represent the South subconference well this weekend. Best of luck to all teams that made the playoffs, I expect some very competitive games.

Granted... MO State did beat us... but in my opinion that was a different team in the begining of the season... we were not ready but now we are.... As you say Div 1AA is not ready for Div 1A teams... I believe you are wrong
SMU is a Div 1 team in a different league...I believe the top in the LSA North
we lost to SMU by 2, which means we can be competitive with other Div1 teams at a higher calibur
Only way to truly find out is when we see yall down in Oxford spring 2009

Not sure if that was sarcastic or not
but I don't think anyone can come to that conclusion
I think ole miss has made great strides and is right where they want to be.
This year Iowa, K-State, and Miss all traded wins at the top of the 1-AA subconference making it very competitive
The subconference system seems to be working as planned

Yeah, the difference between 1-A and AA is pretty big in most cases, but I see Coach McCreery's point too. I think that maybe only allowing one AA team to the playoffs and 5 from A would create a better balance and still allow AA to be represented. I dunno, It will be interesting to see what happens at the conference.
