Defensive Middies on All-Conference Team

There seems to be quite a few outstanding defensive midfielders in the league this year and it seems as though they should be recognized for their play and importance to the games. I know we have a fogo on the all-conference teams but because of the lack of stats the d middies go unnoticed on the all-conference teams. Just an idea I think should be brought up when deciding the teams.

I think that's a great idea. D-Middie is such an important position but it's always overlooked. And since most teams have D-mid specialists I feel like it would be absolutely legitimate to put some on the All-Conference team.

Agreed. I don't think any defense is complete without the SS-D-Middies. Those kids bust their butts every game and deserve some All-Conf respect

The All Conference team breakdown is set up by the national board so that there is the same breakdown in every conference.

All Conference First, Second & Third (optional) Team:

3 Attack, 3 Midfield, 3 Defense, 1 Goal, 1 FOGO, 1 LSM

Honorable Mention - All remaining candidates

I too feel it is a very valuable position, and a really good one can be a huge impact player. But their coaches can nominate them for one of the middie positions.

as being a former d-mid in the ccla, i was very happy that in my last year playing that the ccla decided to recognize the d-mids as a separate category. as former state coach matt holtz used to remind us, guarding an offensive player with a short-stick is one of the hardest things to do in lacrosse. if it was easy, they wouldnt pull off those offensive guys whenever the ball went back to defense. i loved playing d-mid, and was proud to receive the recognition at the end of the year. (although a trip to nationals woulda been much much sweeter...)

Did the league have to do something to approve this or were they allowed to decided on the separation by themselves?

I feel like adding the position would do no harm to the teams and create for a better representation of the league. IF the CCLA can do it I don't see why it would be a problem for the PCLL

I think it would be tough to throw in D-Middies with offensive middies for the All-Conference team. There are clearly a lot of talented offensive midfielders in the PCLL. But talented defensive mids don't have the stats that O mids do.

For examlpe, Josh Foladare from BU is one of the best shortsick defenders out there, but he only has 3 goals on the year. It would be tough to put him on the all-conference team solely as a midfielder due to the offensive firepower of PCLL middies. But at the same time he's been one of the backbones of the Terrier defense, and he might get no recognition for it. In situations like this I feel like a separate category for D-middies is more appropriate.

i have no idea what happened to allow d-mids to have their own category. i didnt even know they were doing it till the end of the year. but, i would agree, its worth looking into to.
