It actually was not at the Pit it was played on the large open turf field adjacent to the Pit. Definitely not the same kind of home-field advantage with no stands and missing the kind of close-up fan interaction which you get at the pit.

If this is the same field they played Sonoma on how could the home field advantage possibly be worse. The fans are only 5 yards from the sideline and it is still at home.

Can someone please give some info on what the Semi-final matchups are supposed to look like? Multiple people have asked and there has been no reponse.

sending updates between quarterfinal games

Postby chslaxcoach on Fri Apr 25, 2008 1:49 pm

I would happily send quarterly updates from ASU/UCSB to people who will be attending the other games. If someone is planning on attending the other games and would like to swap scores, please PM me with your info.

I am going to be doing PA at ASU vs. UCSB, so it would be very cool to be able to announce scores from "around the conference."

TRUST ME, It makes a difference. Not only with the fans being more tightly relegated to the field, but also with the players who would 100x rather play on the pit than on the turf.

Here's the info straight from the WCLL Annual Meeting Minutes:
Division 1: Quarterfinal Playoffs
Game 1- North #1 vs. Central #2
Game 2- Central #1 vs. North #2
Game 3- LA area #1 vs. South #2
Game 4- South #1 vs. LA area #2

Division 1: Final Four
Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 3
Winner Game 2 vs. Winner Game 4

So the semi-final matchups will be SSU (or SCU) vs Chapman (or Az), and Stanford/Chico vs ASU/UCSB. I am assuming those are not the same matchups as 2007.

I wasn't at this fall's meeting, but we discussed the rationale behind the alternating semis when I was still on the Board. In a nutshell, you don't want to alternate the quarterfinals because of travel considerations (e.g. you don't want to force Stanford down to Arizona or vice versa) so it's always LA vs South and Central vs North. But we decided to alternate the opponents in the semis to avoid the potential for the exact same matchups at each Final Four.

Quarter final match-ups

#1 Sonoma v. #2 Santa Clara @ SSU 1:00 - There's no way Sonoma loses at home to Santa Clara.

#1 Stanford v. #2 Chico St. @ Stanford 2:00 - All the pressure is on Stanford, and Chico has to be happy they don't have to travel all the way to Cal Poly this year.

#1 Chapman v. #2 Arizona @ Chapman 1:00 - Chapman will keep on rolling.

#1 ASU v. #2 UCSB @ ASU 1:00 - I want to pick UCSB here, but I just don't think they can keep up with the ASU offense.

No matter who wins this weekend It's going to be a great final four. I can't wait.

Sounds to me like smoke filled room stuff, and not any way to run an Operation! This is play offs folks. Seeding should mean something like they do in the Big Leagues. Is the WCLL looking to imitate AYSO or the NCAA ? Where is my juice box and fruit roll up?

Noma is up 15-6 late in the game and I heard Chapman is easily beating Zona no big shockers.

Arizona State 14
UC Santa Barbara 8

The game wasn't even close. The devils opened up a 2-0 lead within the first minute of the game. They even had two goals called back in the game that were questionable calls. It was 11-3 after the 3rd quarter, and the devils played a few more people from their bench. All in all, the devils look playoff ready and very crisp. The UCSB defense got very chippy during the game, and looked as if they were only trying to hurt the ASU team.
