Agreed. Ft. Lewis has been moving up by beating the teams that they are supposed to beat, ranked lower than them. Similiar to years past. I'd put both Elon and Emory above them at this time.

SJU v NDSU

Postby SharkAttack08 on Wed Apr 23, 2008 11:41 pm

Great game in collegeville. SJU squeaks out a win vs NDSU 11-10. NDSU had the ball with a man up and 16 seconds left. SJU goalie made a good late save.

I agree in general that Elon is the better team in this discussion. However, that score isn't exactly indicative of anything. It was a much closer game until a scrum broke out in the 3rd at which point ejections and officials trying to control the game played a much bigger role in the game than the talent levels of the teams.

Fort Lewis has had a pretty easy schedule all season. They barely beat a broken UVSC squad 15-11 and lost to Westminster 14-7. So, why are they ranked so high? Elon and Emory def should be ranked higher.

Ft Lewis has one more chance at a national ranked team before Playoffs (UNC on the 27th). This outcome will definitely let voters see where they do belong for that poll on the 30th.

SJU squeeked out a much needed win over NDSU. SJU could not capitalize on fast break. NDSU took advantage of many transition opportunities for goals. Also 13 man-up opportunities to SJU's 2. SJU was playing with two starting attackmen, starting LSM, and eventually an all-american defensman on the sideline. SJU/UST rematch should be a big decider for an at-large bid.

what are the odds of SJU getting a bid if they lose the possible rematch? that NDSU game doesn't help. They have 3 wins against top 25 (Northern AZ was ranked when they played). 2 losses vs Top 5 teams.

If you had asked this question a month ago, I would have said 100%.

If you asked this question 2 weeks ago, I would have said 90%

I was thinking about this question since I saw the score of the NDSU game. If they can't get to the UMLL Championship game, I'm not sure about their chances of still receiving an AL bid. If they do face UST in the finals, and get blown out again, I don't think their chances improve very much.

With all the movement in the other conferences, and at this point in the season, I think SJU needs to win the UMLL to guarantee a place in the tournament.

If they play well in the (UMLL) tournament, I think they will be fine. Unlike past years, the only way SJU can be sure they are going to nationals, is to win the conference.

Lets go boys.

I've been playing, scouting and coaching against SJU for 7 years now. They have not looked like themselves the past two games. Maybe they aren't as deep this year, or maybe a long schedule is starting to get the best of them. They need to turn it around and fast if they want in. UST is playing good ball (I know they have/can play better) and the SJU vs. UST game, should it happen in the conf championship, will be extremmly physical and draining to say the least. It will be a good test of whether SJU had a few down games or has fallen off their usual strong pace. Even in a loss, they still have a chance in my mind.

If anyone is counting them out right now, then they're crazy. They've been to the tourney every year it has existed for D II and I can tell from their box scores and what I saw on Monday that they are a bit banged up. If they meet UST in the Conf Championships (UST still has to win to get in too) it's going to be a total battle. One I'm looking very forward to.

I agree, the score wasn't indicative of how close the game was for three quarters. The point I was trying to make is that Charlotte is a great team that should be ranked higher than their current 15 spot. Elon's win over them I feel really supports their resume in determining the next poll.

If I’m not mistaking Ft. Lewis has moved up 1 rank since the 1st poll. Seems to me they do not keep moving up. As matter of fact they have been 7th in the last 3 polls?
