Division I poll predictions

Postby Ravaging Beast on Tue Apr 22, 2008 1:47 pm

With the new poll coming out tomorrow, are there any predictions? This is a very crucial poll for many teams, especially the SELC. They won't be playing any games before any of the next few polls. Here is mine.

1. Michigan
2. Chapman
3. Duluth
4. BYU
5. ASU
6. SFU
7. CSU
8. UCSB
9. Sonoma
10. BC
11. Georgia
12. FSU
13. Va. Tech
14. Colorado
15. Utah
16. Stanford
17. Claremont

I think the SELC teams should be in the 10-13 range so that they can have a chance at an at large bid if teams like Utah and Colorado don't step it up during their league playoffs. I put Utah and Colorado at 14 and 15 because I think a good showing in the RMLC playoffs should get them to Nationals. I did the same for Stanford. If they can make the WCLL finals, they should definitely go to nationals. Hopefully they won't decide to leave St. Louis...I mean Dallas early if they make it, but lose at Nationals. And I think Claremont deserves some recognition for what they have done in their second? year as a DI team in the tough LA division of the WCLL.

My guess is very similair to Ravaging Beast's but I had to made some changes. Namely, putting Sonoma above UCSB and Va Tech above FSU based on SELC tourney. Plus, Florida should be up there between 16-19. I put them at 17.

am i missing something here?????

why is everyone putting stanford and claremont below colorado and utah. Utah lost to cal poly, and got smoked by claremont. Then Utah beat colorado.... seems pretty logical to me.

Utah has shown that they are an inconsistent team, but why is that being rewarded by a high poll ranking. Shouldn't teams that show up to play every week be ranked higher than teams who have some good wins, but also bad losses.

I know this is supposedly a down year for the WCLL, but i think the RMLC is really the conference having the down year.

A lot of spots are hard to argue.
But i'd say put uga above BC because 1. they beat them head to head and 2. to reward them for winning a much harder conference than BCs

For Stanford, the loss to Cal certainly keeps the ranking from being where it could be. 16-17 seems like a realistic spot, more so if you consider Cal to be a vastly improved team from just two weeks ago.

Agreed! That was my thought when looking at the mock polls. Utah already got their bump for beating CSU and CU in the last poll. They jumped from unranked to 19.

Since the last poll Utah beat 2 Division 2 teams, and LOST to Lindenwood, a team ranked below them, and got stomped by BYU. I guess I don't see where they have earned a 5 spot jump in that time.

If anything I see them dropping out of the top 20 after their loss to Lindenwood.

Just because? Any explanation. It wasn't like UCSB barely squeaked by Sonoma. They crushed them handily. UCSB has shown some major improvement since losing in Florida. It was a good wake up call for UCSB. They have played some very good teams in the last three weeks going 2-2 against Sonoma, ASU, Chapman, and LMU. We might as well count that as 4-0 because 1 goal losses count as wins in this league.

I am sorry, Oregon maybe having a bit of a step back from last year, but there is no way they are not Top 20. They still have BYU and a potential rematch with SFU to get back into the mix, I really don't think dropping them out of the Top 20 is where they deserve to be and I honestly don't think that many teams are better than them

I put Utah and Colorado so high because the RMLC doesn't get an AQ. If they don't win the RMLC they won't be going, but if they do win, there is still a chance that they also won't be going. I moved them up to give them that chance if they do show a strong finish at the end of the season. This poll means a lot because it sets teams up to make nationals based on good playoff performances.

They still have BYU and SFU. Those are two blowouts waiting to happen. They lost to a Cal team that finished 4th in its division! People are questioning Sonoma being in the top 10 and they crushed Oregon by 12 goals. Sorry, Oregon is not good.

No. 21 Stanford loses to unranked Cal and moves up 5 spots in the poll?

I don't think it is the job of the pollsters to set up teams to make nationals based on good playoff performances. Teams should have put themselves in that position throughout the season. If Utah and CU and taken care of business during the season they would be in a position where their playoff performance would be enough to get them in the tourney.

They didn't.
