Two FSU related questions:

1. How is Dave Siegel a 1st team middie and not a Top 3 face off middie? No disrespect intended to his all around game but I'd say that his primary contribution is at the X.

2. How is Chris Sjogren the specialty player of the year and not the first or second team all-conference LSM?

Were the coaches trying to spread the wealth? I'm not making a huge criticism, just trying to understand the logic.

a lot of how this shakes out is based on how the coaches nominate their players and for which poisitions.
There is a committee that then votes on the results.

Everyone can make arguments for players on their own team of course. For example, in my opinion Andrew Jaffke should be honorable mention minimum for All Conference. Is the biggest thing for goalies their save %? Because if so then that is unfortunate. Yeah its important but, in games where SELC teams beat up on each other (i.e. VT vs. FSU, VT vs. UGA beginning of season) and the score count is high, goalies like Jaffke make huge saves (FSU game) that I wish everyone in the SELC could see. But that's never going to happen because it is nearly impossible.

Ken, any insight on what stats for goalies (i.e. save %?) are looked at in voting?

Just doesn't make sense that the teams who were not as successful could have their goalie make All Conference over top SELC goalies.


Also, did Crawford from Auburn just have a good tournament or has he been this solid all year? Because he too should be an All Conference goalie IMO.

Ok, so I agree Corey Noonan is a great player and I'm sure Tim Tyrell was looked at for OMVP. Corey is a great finisher (62 goals reg. season) but only has 17 assists. Matt Janowski of FSU had 41 assists (13 goals), most likely a large % went to Corey. Where as Tyrell has 33 goals and 30 assists on the season. Which leads me to believe Tim is the better all around player. Plus Tim has better stats against the big teams (UGA and FSU) than Noonan has against UGA and VT. Noonan only had 1 goal no assists against UGA and 2 goals no assists against VT. Tyrell had 3 goals 2 assists against UGA and 3 and 3 against FSU. I would just like to know what criteria the votes are based on if possible. Again, not taking away from Noonan, he is a great player; just trying to see what arguments were made against Tyrell.

Yeah, I agree. But im not just going by big game stats, also overall season stats, that's what Shawn lacks. He's below both Tim and Corey and another VT attackmen Tom Schauder.

i tend to think most of the votes for that sort of award are based on actually seeing the players play...i don't think stats are taken into account as much as everyone thinks.
