While I don't know about us having a better squad in general, I can say with very little boasting that if we'd played either of the 2 teams in the other semi, on that specific day and time, we'd have won. We weren't perfect and we certainly still have some moments we'd like to have back in that game, but Emory had to play some damned good lacrosse and have a bit of luck to survive through what we brought to the table for those 2 hours.
It's a moot point though. I don't think we meet the At-Large Bid criteria in terms of our schedule. Our team officers didn't realize our out of conference games had to be D2, so we'd have to go find one more team to play after the tourney the way Emory has Dayton scheduled.
(If anyone out there needs one, let me know.)
Wtih all that said I think we had a pretty good season. Other than letting the game against Davidson slip away late, the teams we lost to are all currently ranked in the top 10. Of those, the St. Thomas game was triple OT and the Emory game was a toss up until very late in the game. The Elon game wasn't close on the scoreboard, but I think even the Elon guys would tell you that the 1 goal margin prior to the "fight" in the third quarter was more indicative of the talent on the field than the final score that certainly appeared to have more to do with the officials.
Again, don't think we're moving up high enough to qualify, but I don't think we should be falling very far. We played top teams this season and we played each of them very close, I wish the coin would've landed in our favor in one or two of them, but I'm a firm believer that it's better to have lost a close gutsy game against a worthy opponent than to completely dominate a team that isn't on your level.
