Ya'll had a good season, so it shouldn't be hard to push for a 401(k) at your contract negotiations this coming summer, right? :D

Elon wins over Emory 6 - 5 with the final goal at 2.6 seconds.

Crazy ending to the game.

If you're a coach I hope you hold yourself to a higher standard. Both sides caused the problem and both sides were penalized on the field by the refs, and on top of that Coastal lost. Isn't that enough, or do we need to continue trash talking about people that aren't here to defend themselves? (speaking of class)

Oh I absolutely hold my HS players to a higher standard. I don't think you can spin the hit that caused the fight into any remotely positive light. It's not trash talking to call a blatantly illegal hit to someone's back/neck while they're in the air cheap...IT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. Ask your bro.

I'm not talking about the fan's actions. I am talking about the on the field/sidelines actions. If my kids flipped out and acted like that...I wouldn't be like "well...their fans are mean....so yeah!"

But I mean, Coastal Carolina didn't no-show the game...so there's some positive goodies for ya.

finals

Postby WallyLaxFan on Sun Apr 20, 2008 8:55 pm

Elaborating on the finals today, it was a great game. Emory dominated the first half and held a 5-1 lead in the third. Elon roared back to tie the game, and then Emory took a 6-5 lead. Elon tied it up again with 2 minutes remaining. Emory brought the heat for 50 of the last 60 seconds, getting three shots on goal, one hitting the pipe. With 10 seconds left, the Elon goalie airmailed the ball in an attempt to clear and send it to overtime. The ball was grabbed by an Elon player who dished it to another for a one on one goal with 2.6 seconds. The Elon defense and goaltender were phenominal in both the semis and finals, allowing only 3 goals in both game combined.

Hats off to the Emory Eagles. #12 has arguably the best shot in the league, and the goalie played excellent as well. They show great sportsmanship, and definately deserve serious consideration for an at large bid to the MCLA tourney. Another great SELC season.

I did ask my brother about it. He also mentioned that the elon player retaliated by slashing the offending player in the neck...must've not seen that. He also mentioned that the late hit was classless and was the result of poor decision making to say the least.. Nowhere did I defend that. (BTW, the guy was in the air? I'm looking forward to the video...I apologize if I don't take your word for it)

As for the hit causing the fight there have been late hits before and late hits in the back, and they don't usually cause a fight. As my mom said, it takes two.

The player that got smoked from behind was out for the count and had to be helped up off of the field and was laying face down during the skirmish.

From The Article wrote:The coaches were deeply frustrated though because apparently as soon as they crossed the midfield line, they all started calling for a timeout that was not granted.
“Yeah we called timeout for about 20 seconds when we had possession,” said Eagles head coach Dave Reed. “They said they didn’t hear us.”

That was not a good enough explanation for Reed though.

“I have five coaches, we were all screaming and everyone else heard it,” said Reed. “It’s unbelievable."

I usually defend any/all refs (for good or bad)...but missing a timeout is pretty inexcusable in a clutch situation in a game like that. When the game is tied, less than a minute to go...you gotta be able to I dunno...do what you're getting paid to do. Messing up a call is one thing. Taking away a coach's right to call a timeout and set up an offense is just crap.

Time out can't be granted until the player in possession is on or across the restraining line in his offensive end of the field. Granted, they would have had to have entered before 20 seconds had expired, but by the same token, they could have been called for illegal procedure for requesting a timeout when one could not be granted.

I can relate to coach Reed's feelings though. I still have a video tape from a game in which one of my players on offense was under heavy pressure behind the cage. Defender caused a turnover which resulted in the game tying goal

You can clearly hear me on the tape request a timeout 5 times before the turnover, none was granted. The video camera was recording from the other side of the field.

The timeout calls were made upon touching the box. That's just how it goes sometimes tho...doesn't make it an easy pill to swallow.
