Anyone have anything to say about the Charlotte/TWC game? All I have to go on is a text saying who won and something about the slow play in the first(by Charlotte) and coming out in the 2nd half.
Good luck to Elon tomorrow, but I will be pulling for SCAD.

Re: Coastal v. Elon
WallyLaxFan wrote:Coastal Carolina needs to learn to play lacrosse They spent the entire Elon game complaining about the officials calls, as if the officials were pulling for Elon. After an even first half, Elon pulled away in the third. Because of their lack of knowledge on the rules, Coastal decided to take out their anger at the officials out on Elon players. Toward the end of the game, a coastal player aparently said to an Elon player "you want to see a real hit?" Then proceeded to drill an Elon player in the back of the head. An Elon player retaliated and all hell broke loose. A total of five ejections were handed out, and one Elon player was suspended for the semifinals. Following the game, the Coastal players continued to take out their frustrations on the Elon fans, making obscene comments for no reason. I know for sure that I am not the first one to complain about Coastal's sportsmanship and playing style. I think the league and school should take serious action toawrd both the coaching staff and the players, because nor the opposing team nor officials deserves that kind of abuse. Credit the officials for making the right calls all night long. I apoligize to a certain amount of the Coastal players who were very nice, and showed the sportsmanship expected in this level of sports. Hopefully, the rest of the weekend will produce "cleaner" lacrosse.
Since all the Coastal players are still in Atlanta and since my brother plays for Coastal in his last year, I'd appreciate you not heaping all the issues on Coastal. Show some class...which is apparently (a word you seem to use a decent amount) more than can be said for both teams last night. To me the root of this is lack of a strong coach....Elon has had trouble getting and keeping a coach (as have many programs) and Coastal is a first year team with a young coach.
Also, how is it that just one elon player was suspended? IF a player is ejected shouldn't he automatically be suspended from the following game per the rules?
EDIT: Also, the Elon coach refused to shake hands after the game. Quite a sad specticle for the SELC Div B for every team involved.

The official score of the UNC Charlotte - TWC game was
UNC Charlotte 14
Tennessee Wesleyan 6
It was a tight first half, 1-1 at the end of 1 and with Charlotte up 4-3 at the half.
In the second half, Charlotte came alive. The play that sparked it was a heads up move by Senior defender Steve Ruane who trailed a clear across midfield into the offensive zone, and called for and received a kick-back pass from John Metcalfe, which resulted in a howitzer of a shot and goal. The energy and momentum never left Charlotte's favor after that.
TWC did a good job of taking away our bread and butter, playing a zone which minimized Colin Wauchope on the crease and extended off ball pressure onto Mike Ganzert to keep his touches low. John Metcalfe responded with 5 goals and 4 assists to keep our offense rolling.
12:15 today, a rematch of last years championship game, 5 seed UNC Charlotte v. 1 seed Emory.

From the NCAA rulebook:
Expulsion Fouls
Penalty
SECTION 12. The penalty for an expulsion foul shall be a three-minute
nonreleasable penalty, ejection for the remainder of the game in which the foul
occurred and suspension from the next intercollegiate contest of that team.

This by no means reflects the whole CC, but after playing them last week, there are some kids on that team that need to shut up and play lacrosse. They had two players ejected from our game so I hope they weren't playing in Atlanta. As the visiting team last week we went out of our way to accommodate them, and because of it, we lost our last game against high point because CC canceled against high point. They were honestly the most unclassy team we've ever played in the selc. I hope no one from elon gets suspended. I'm sure that's what some of CC's guys wanted since they couldn't win.

Just FYI, I'm not sure how good that High Point game would've been, since they were going to take a multiple hour trip with 12 players, apparently four of which hadn't played lacrosse before. Besides, I don't understand how Coastal canceling them affects your game at all. Don't know what happend on any of these fields but I've never played, coached, or refed a game where one side was complaining about jawing while keeping their mouths shut and playing the game.

So Emory wins a shootout over a talented UNC-C team and Elon and SCAD got to OT? Sounds like some great games. I get the feeling that the SELC is very well balanced. I'll be interested to see how Elon vs. Emory ends up based on the close regular season match-up. I think the team or teams that move onto Dallas from the SELC could do very well.
Can anyone add a bit of color to what seemed like two very good games?

Elon vs. SCAD
As mentioned above Elon squeaked by a talented SCAD team in overtime. Congratulations to Coach Cummings and his Squad on a great season. SCAD controlled the first half and Elon the second. I would like to comment on how well the SCAD team played, both in terms of ability and sportsmanship. I would also like to comment on the superb play of the SCAD goalie, who made at least 20 saves. Should be a great final.

Emory 17, Charlotte 15
Charlotte came out and took a 5-1 lead in the first. Emory rolled back and took a lead by the half. Continued to play well during the third. Charlotte scored the final goal of the third and roared into the fourth, coming back from 5 down to tie it up at 13-13. then it became a bit of back and forth momentum wise and Emory ended up having the pendulum swinging in their favor at the end.
If you'd only seen the 1st and 4th you'd have though Charlotte won by a nice margin, if you'd only seen the 2nd and 3rd, you'd have though Emory won in a route.
Watched the Elon-SCAD game, it was a totally different beast than the first game. Slow moving, a lot of ground balls, goals were few and far between. Elon really grinded the win out in the second half, with some exceptional play from their goalie.

Since all the Coastal players are still in Atlanta and since my brother plays for Coastal in his last year, I'd appreciate you not heaping all the issues on Coastal. Show some class...
Your brother playing for them, or their current geographic location doesn't change the game, the attitudes or the class displayed or not displayed by CC.
Were you at the game? I was. In fact, I do believe myself and another coach were the only non-fans/players still there. Elon played with class, and hard throughout the game. Coastal (meanwhile) bickered and complained very vocally (and with choice words) about every call the ref made, and for everything Elon did. An Elon player made a clean hit on the sidelines...and it turned into a spectacle on behalf of CC. A slash to the helmet by CC was met with bench screaming and often times a bench conduct warning/flag. The fact that they're a new team doesn't excuse the fact that this wasn't their first game of the year...and behavior like that is NOT acceptable on or off the field.
The retaliation of fighting on behalf of the Elon team for a disgusting, pathetic, trashy hit that could have paralyzed the Elon player was wrong, yes. Would you shake his hand had he done that to your brother?
EDIT: Also, the Elon coach refused to shake hands after the game. Quite a sad specticle for the SELC Div B for every team involved.
Well, this obviously makes Coastal Carolina's actions on even terms with Elon's. All is right with the world lolz!!!!!11111

I wasn't there for the Elon-CC fight, but I WAS there for the UNC Charlotte-Elon fight....
...and I'd have to agree with your statement. As a Younger coach it is a little harder to establish as much control over your players, and it certainly isn't always the case, but the teams that seem to get into scuffles tend to not be teams with Older coaches, or coaches that are actually paid to do what their doing.
(The obvious solution is for Charlotte, Elon and CC to pay us coaches, right?)

Not sure if you read my whole post. May want to go back and see that I said both programs had an issue with class. The player that made the bad hit (not being there I'm not gonna comment on what happened) did something that was inexcuseable. As did the player that retaliated. As did the players that left benches (both of 'em, from what I hear, but I wasn't there). Keep in mind that there were three elon players tossed and two coastal ones. Also, from what I hear (feel free to excuse it since you were there and you're obviously impartial) the crowd wasn't exactly the politest and came up after the game and jawed to Coastal. A few bad eggs on both rosters were to blame. And YES....the coach not shaking hands is INEXCUSABLE. The coach is supposed to set an example to his players. If you're a coach I hope you hold yourself to a higher standard. Both sides caused the problem and both sides were penalized on the field by the refs, and on top of that Coastal lost. Isn't that enough, or do we need to continue trash talking about people that aren't here to defend themselves? (speaking of class)
