Lewis and Clark

kevin hit the nail on the head. "the old days" are gone! lacrosse is in the NW. there are more and more HS teams sprouting up each year, it is definitely growing on its own. we need to drop this philanthropic attitude many hold toward the game. my alma matter was pathetic in its attempt to bring along rookies, guys who had never picked up a stick till college and then wanted to come out and try something new. it really hindered our team and stunted our overall growth. this same attitude of wanting wounded teams to hang around is detrimental to the league. i would almost prefer fewer quality teams with more repeat games than see 25-point blow-outs by second stringers.

Well, I don't think you need to go as far as to call bringing new guys to the sport pathetic. One of our captains this year, our FOGO/Man-up crease guy Brice picked up a stick for the first time spring of his sophomore year. Now he scores goals. It's ok to allow these guys to play, you just gotta be judicious in their game time.

MATT,
I WASNT CALLING NEW PLAYERS PATHETIC, IT WAS OUR ATTITUDE OF CARRYING OVER 50PERCENT OF OUR ROSTER AS ROOKIES THAT WAS PATHETIC. THERE WAS NO SCREENING PROCESS. AND YES YOU'RE RIGHT, THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULE- MY SENIOR YEAR WE HAD A SECOND YEAR LONG POLE MAKE ALL LEAGUE, HE WAS AWESOME BUT DEFINITELY THE MINORITY. BTW DONT TAKE GENERALISMS SO PERSONALLY

Depends on the dedication of the players etc... PLU was perennially players with no HS experience... 2 League MVP's from PLU never played before, PNCLL Defensive MVP, countless All-Stars, I believe the occassional All-American, etc. I get your point, but teams have varied success with it.

I would agree with Kyle, The WOU program was started and is based around players that have never picked up a stick before our program. Now granted we haven't had the perennial success as some of the other teams in the PNCLL but we have been in the playoffs 3 out of 4 years with most of our starting line every year being composed of players that began playing when they came out to join our program. Lacrosse is a sport that even the most untalented athletes can succeed at with proper dedication.

Hey fellas,
I just wanted to clarify a few things. Our decision to drop from the league wasn't from a lack of commitment, it was from a lack of school funding. As many of you have pointed out, some schools are starting to turn their back on athletics - LC is no exception, especially with their perennial budget crisis which seems to cut some program year after year.

That being said, I very much enjoyed my time in the PNCLL and had some great times - including having my thumb dislodged at the hands of a very large Grizz defensemen - even if the scores were horrendously lop-sided. We all played because we love the game, but the league grew - for better - and we did not. Our core 8 players or so were a dedicated (and talented) bunch, but our school is no longer interested in funding us.

So, on behalf of the Pioneers, I apologize for the inconvenience this will cause our four remaining opponents, but our economic situation left us no alternative.

I am still saddened by the situation and I will very much miss playing in the PNCLL next year. I wish the remaining teams luck and am looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season pans out.

Sometimes 25 point blow-outs even happen to teams that aren't about to drop out of the league...... :?

I don't know what alma mater to which you refer, but at a school of roughly 1,500 students I can't afford to screen. It's like I tell my players who can't make every game: we're not in the business of keeping people off the team. If we were we wouldn't have a team. In a perfect world I would cut players who couldn't make a game, but in the PNCLL like in many sports you have to make ends meet.

For now I think there's no use crying over spilled milk, L&C is gone just like Linfield and Evergreen. Let's hope that PSU can get their act together and try to fill the void.

Who's excited about another realignment discussion at the AGM!!!! WOOHOO!! :D

i have to say that i am disappointed that we have lost yet another team, however at the same time it will provide a good oppurtunity for not only the league but L&C to re-evaluate themselves. when we lost evergreen we gained WOU, SOU and CofI. not a bad trade off, i think the league will rebound and eventually bring in another team to replace them, someone already said it but the quality of teams or rising and if individual teams are not than it A: brings down the quality of play in the league and B: brings down the interest of that team and eventually drops out.

it sucks to hear that the reason behind was funding from the school. were they not allowing you to keep the school name? or just lack of funding?

when i was at PLU i think my freshman year the school only gave us like 1,000 dollars. we had to raise ourselves. I can see the school not allowing to use the colors and names but lack of money sounds like a lack of interest. i hate to keep using this example but montana was not far from where L&C is a few years back. with desire and dedication comes a program that will follow with expectations and goals. Kevin has done an amazing job over there and has really laid a foundation. the same can be done with L&C, willamette is starting over and look where they are.

the great thing about the lax community is everyone wants everyone to succeed, if a team needs help call out for it, i'm sure someone willl answer.

good luck to L&C in whatever direction they go as a team, i hope lax can find its way back on campus.

To give another positive note, Willamette has just scheduled a scrimmage with the University of Portland on April 19th.

Maybe if we get that 10th team we can get those divisions we were supposed to have this year....

Dan. . .the one thing I don't understand -- you guys already paid your league bill and would have been in good standing if you could have found a way to make the trip to WWU and CWU this weekend. I know road trips can get costly. . .but honestly - a few tanks of gas and you could have driven up early Saturday morning. You probably could have contacted WWU or CWU to see if they had places for you to crash - not ideal, but given the circumstances my bet is that they would have let you guys crash on the floor. . .

At least that's how we rolled back when I was in college. Rarely did we stay in hotel rooms - we operated on minimal budgets and made it work.

Lewis and Clark will be missed. It's a shame that you guys couldn't find a way to reach the finish line and preserve your program's long history with the PNCLL and the MCLA.
