Face Off Mechanic Question

Guys in stripes,

I have been watching a lot of NCAA D1 games and on the f/o the FOGO's right foot is right behind the ball (to the right of the right hand) I was always under the impression that everything had to be to the left of the bottom of the head of the crosse.

I am asking because I was watching a MCLA D2 game where the ref was calling illegal procedure for a similar "infraction".

Could one of you guys please clarify for me.

Officially, everything must be to the left of the plastic, although we usually let it go if it's an elbow or knee since there's no advantage to that.

When this new f/o rule came out, I suggested that it might actually lead to fewer faceoff violations being called, especially at the highest levels of NCAA play, since some of those officials feel like if they get the coaches hacked off they won't get playoff assignments. There's also an attitude there of, "if they're both cheating equally, let it go."

My experience in the MCLA is similar to yours: officials are making the call.

With more exposure of the NCAA DA1 teams on TV, I often get questions from my players about what they see in those games.

I explain those games are played and officiated at the highest level. We do not play at that level and don't expect to see similar calls from the officials.

I agree with LaxRef regarding the officials' concerns regarding playoff game selections.
