Looking for summer league in south Texas
Does anyone here know of any men's club teams or summer lacrosse leagues south of San Antonio, particularly in the Rio Grande Valley? I doubt there are any, but I thought it might be worth asking around here before I quit looking for one...

Interesting question-I can't help you (although I find it interesting that you can find a pro hockey team out there). But your question got me to thinking. I was in San Angelo a few months back and I saw some lacrosse goals on campus at Angelo State (granted some kids from the barrio were playing soccer with them-but they were definitely lacrosse goals). My question is there anything going on out there? H.S., College, club? Do any Tech players know anything? (West Texas is definitely Red Raider Country). It just kind of fascinated me that they would actually turn up there of all places.

Don't know about San Angelo, not exactly anywhere near the Valley. However my cousin grew up there and went on to play lacrosse for Texas A&M Corpus Christi (They had a team in a different, less organized league).
As for the hockey team, it is huge...I love going to those games...very exciting and you're right, I grew up in McAllen and I never thought that hockey would be popular there at any level. I guess if anything the success of hockey in the Valley should be reason to believe that lacrosse can be successful in states like Texas where it is not a traditional sport.

Thats true but West Texas is a big place. San Angelo is 3-4 hours away, about the same as Fort Worth But to answer your question I do not know for sure but my best guess would be the college there. Its hard to find H.S. lacrosse in West Texas, and it would be a strange place for a Men's team to suddenly pop up. A college team can pop up pretty quick and they are not to far from Austin and San Antonio.

Just visited the Angelo State University website and found out that its Campus Recreation offers only 4 club sports-- rugby, men's soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, and gymnastics.
Just wonder if anyone has ever contacted Angelo State to just find out if anyone at ASU has wanted to think about setting up lax team there.
I would love to see more West Texas collegiate lacrosse teams playing though most of them will still have to travel long distance- Tech, Angelo State, UTEP, etc. Actually, this topic has been discussed many times in the past.
