WCLL week 11, Post scores, comments, discuss games here

I have actually seen many many goalies from the bay, as well as a few of the SI goalies of years past ;)

I have seen a couple of goalies at camps around that have really impressed me, and probably play a much better fundamental game than Dylan does....

That being said, Dylan makes more of the unbelievable saves than anyone i have seen, and he makes them consistently... maybe it's because of his flair for the dramatic, but he is definitely the best i have seen play in high school

In several games this year (including this last weekend) he has made a 5-7 goal difference in the game. Games that MV has been close in would be blowouts without him back there....

I will also say that he is a MAJOR head case and when he's off can look very mediocre... maybe the consistency aspect of things downgrades him a bit.... then again, maybe i haven't been around high school lacrosse in too long :)

The goalie position is all about consistency, IMO. Hence, my comment from before.

From WCLL.com

Arizona 8
CSU 11

Looks like Arizona's season is over unless they can miraculously win the WCLL.

another rough week for USD.

USD came out strong and took a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter against top-25 Claremont. A week after defeating 19 LMU, the Toreros proved they could contend with top-25 teams on a regular basis. After holding the lead for much of the game USD made some clearing and ball handling errors to let Claremont catch up and force the game into overtime. A questionable-at-best flag gave Claremont a man-up opportunity and they finished.

Claremont over USD by 1 in OT

Great job Gauchos, but what happened in the 4th qtr to seal the deal?
The Buff's were too much for the Laxcats who are on life support. Chapman came out smoking (7-0 1st qtr)against Cal Poly, then their offense got cocky and Cal Poly slowed it down and created a few turn overs to make it more interesting than the first quarter indicated. Chapman is going to have to get off of cruise control to beat the young Bipolar Gauchos next week. Then watch out for LMU !

I was at both of the UCSB games this weekend, and this was my take on the games. Spring break has always been tough on the Gauchos. They just finish a week of no practice because of finals then have to head on a long road trip to some exotic part of the country like Utah or Florida. But enough of the excuses.
UCSB's defense really stepped it up in these two games. In the Sonoma game, Cito Williams hardly touched the ball, and when he did, the slides were coming fast and hard, forcing him to move the ball. A one man team is not going to do that well against a well coached defense. The defense for Sonoma looked pretty good until the fourth quarter. I don't know if they were tired or what. The UCSB offense just seemed to pick them apart. Their defense was breaking down on every play, and Pringle was not making enough saves to keep them in it. UCSB just seemed to feed off of the momentum and the support of the crowd throughout the fourth quarter.
Todays game against ASU was a great game to watch. UCSB got off to an early lead, but ASU came back to tie it up at half time. UCSB got a penalty with 5 seconds left in the half, and ASU started with the ball on man up in the third. They scored a quick goal to put them ahead by one. Every time UCSB would tie it up, ASU would come back with a quick goal to kill UCSB's momentum. The defense for UCSB played great. Muncho had some amazing saves for the Gauchos. I have been very critical of ASU in the past, especially their defense. Last year, their poles had no stick skills, but they have stepped it up in that area.
All in all, the games were great. I always love beating up on Sonoma, but hate losing to ASU. My favorite part of todays game was sitting next to one of the ASU mom's who was taking pictures. She was actually encouraging me to heckle her son. I kept it clean and heckled the Westfalls instead. Looks like the strength of the WCLL is down south.

Do you think UCSB will petition to move to one of the northern divisions next year?

For those of you not privy to Ukraine's brand of constant instigation, he is trying to reference the year 2000; when the league was at 16 teams, and UCSB changed from the Northern Division (back then there were only two, North and South). This according to him and his fellow Golden Bear supporters, was done for no other reason then to avoid having to play the mighty Cal Bears of the time; even though UCSB has still scheduled them every year since. It had NOTHING to do with making two equal divisions of 8.

Ukraine, your reference is outdated. Why change anything now when a certain team can guarantee a home play-off game every year, and that they virtually "walk" to the final four (they change mascots easier than they change things up to help the rest of th league)? Why schedule your rival every year, when some years you can just skip it? Why switch it up, and have the four dvisions rotate their 1 vs 2 from the other divisions, when the South/LA can just keep eliminating each other before the final four each year? WHY have four equal divisions of 5 teams, when you can easily screw things up and have one of 6, two of 5, and one with 4.

Don't be an idiot my Ukrainian friend, all that DOESN'T MAKE ANY LOGICAL SENSE
