Congrats SFU! Big win over the Ducks.

SFU played a great game, they must have had 2/3 of the possession, if not more. Their ride was excellent and pressured the long poles into many turnovers. SFU was VERY physical in the ground balls, winning many of them. By the 4th quarter, it seemed like some Oregon players didn't want to go for loose balls in fear of being hit. SFU did a great job of moving the ball around and seemed to spread their offense well, never relying on one or two guys to do everything.

Oregon just seemed like they never got comfortable, throwing away passes and dropping balls. The Oregon shots lacked precision and missed the net too often. They REALLY missed Scott Miller in this game, as SFU had a decisive edge in the face-off battles.

A big point in the game was early in the 3rd, SFU had a 1 goal or 2 goal lead. The Oregon attackmen (might have been Loescher) was in cold on the SFU keeper with NOBODY around him. He did a high/low deke and was absolutely robbed by the SFU goalie. SFU really seemed to get a boost from it.


SFU with a big win, but Oregon can erase this memory with a strong showing in Montana in a few weeks.

SFU out played UO in every aspect. Oregon played stupid and threw it away, just didnt look good. Stupid stuff like clearing and pushing a shot rather than settling it down and working offense, and then SFU would make a save and bust out the other way for a fast break. SFU is good at fast breaks. Paul Swanson played "the best game I have ever seen him play" so it sounds like the game could have been worse. Like it was said before, SFU beat UO on ground balls and face offs. UO didn't look to have much depth and the middies were dead tired by the end of the game. SFU was just the better team today.

I am sure he will have some more too add or tell me I wrote down what he said wrong.

SFU/UO game observations:

-Oregon's goalie Swanson is incredible. He made numerous unbelievable saves, especially early. The goal differntial could have been A LOT worse.

-SFU's faceoff guys dominated. I don't think they lost more than 3 or 4 all game.

-Curtis Manning, SFU LSM, is a machine. I think he stripped every guy who drove on him until Oregon finally gave up on trying to beat him.

-Blackmore is a real bright spot on UO, excellent at manoevering through 3 or 4 defenceman and somehow always finds his way right to the front of the net.

Highlight of the game - SFU #3 clocked a UO player so hard, the UO player lost his shoe.

Idaho lost to Gonzaga... not sure on the final, but it was around a 6 goal margin I think (11-5 maybe??)

That's pretty accurate. Oregon played zone most the first half, and man to man the second. While the zone shutdown scoring in the crease, it meant SFU could take a lot of shots and dominate the possession time. The Ducks were still well in the game early in the third quater at 5-6, but then SFU scored about 4 straight goals. The Oregon ride wasn't effective against SFU and Oregon seemed very impatient trying to get the ball up field against SFU. I would like to see the stats on Swanson's saves. he had a lot. SFU's goalie was outstanding as well.

On the other end of the field, when SFU made a defensive lapse, OSU converted. SFU started righting the ship in the 3rd quarter, and came out on fire in the 4th, scoring 6 straight goals to take the lead 9-6 before trading goals for the last half of the quarter. Most impressive players were the OSU goalie and Manning for SFU. He really led the charge in the 4th. I think he got the tieing and go-ahead goal. Probably a bit of a letdown game for SFU after yesterday's big win, but they turned it on when it mattered.

You see these kind of scores happen in all kinds of sports at many levels. A team plays a big emotional game the day before and comes out flat/doesn't play as well the very next day in a game that doesn't quite have the same flair to it.

SFU flirted with disaster (from a Poll point of view) but came away the victory.

Hangover from yesterday? I think not. This score, along with the CSU score shows me that Oregon isn't ready for the big games this year. I would put Oregon as a better team against OSU and Utah any day, but both those teams played much better (Utah won) against common opponents. Both CSU and SFU had a lot of pain and anguish to exact on the Ducks after last year and farther for that with SFU. Oregon better start steppin it up for the big games or they are going to be in trouble with both Noma and BYU left.

SFU did look sluggish in the first 3 quarters despite the fact they had possession for most of the time (I guess hangover from the big win yesterday). Faceoffs/groundballs were much more evenly matched than the UO game.

OSU's goalie really made some great saves, point blank and of the toe variety. OSU is also a very good team, and had a few highlight real fast break goals.

By the time the 4th quarter rolled around I guess SFU said enough is enough and switched Manning from LSM to Mid. He and #5 (don't know his name) led the scoring charge and righted the ship. #5 also had a great game yesterday and he gets a lot of minutes.

All in all, very impressed with OSU - they're very disciplined and #12 and #22 are dangerous. Also impressed SFU hung in there and didn't panic when down by 3 in the 4th.
